My 10 year old son needs braces and I want him to go to a good child friendly orthodonitist. Also I need an orthodontist that accepts dental insurance. His regualar dentist recommended someone but they did not accept insurance so I would have to pay out of pocket. I told them that didn't make sense since I have insurance.

What can I do next?

Regina T,
Some insurance plans are only accepted by specific dentists that provide services for those companies. Perhaps you could check with your insurance company regarding providers that accept your insurance. Dr. Bill McClendon is the orthodontist we used years ago when he initially began practicing in Powder Springs. My family has known Dr. McClendon for a long time and would recommend him personally and professionally.

have you thought about paying for it and having the insurance company reimburse you? You will find that it is quite common for dentists (and orthodontists) to NOT take insurance for the exact reason that they do not want to become as managed as the rest of the health care system. You may want to tune into Clark Howard sometime on the subject...

My son just got his braces off last month and we have been very happy with his orthodontist. The orthodontist is William J. McLendon. The phone number is ###-###-####. I am not sure about insurance because we did not have any so we went with the payment plan. Everyone is the office is very nice and Dr. McLendon and his staff are great with children.

try Pickron Ortho on COncord Rd in Smyrna. From Powder Springs its not that far and he accepts a lot of insurances. I was a patient of Dr. Pikron when I had braces - 20+ years ago. He now has many offices around town, Good luck!

Hi-

I have a 13 yo son and he is on round 2 of braces. We have always seen Dr. Depew. We used to live in Kennesaw but now we live in Hiram. It is a little bit of a drive for us now but it is well worth it. Their office staff is awesome and Dr. Depew is a great "kid" kind of guy. He is well known in Kennesaw and even has a Hummer 2 as a brace bus. This bus picks kids up from school for their appointments if you have to work and can't get them to their visit. I have never had them pick up in Hiram so I am not sure about that. All I know is he loves it and that's all that matters to me. Their number is ###-###-####. Tell them that Alex Cannon referred you.

My son and daughter also go to Dr McLendon. He has two offices now one in Powder Springs and one in Dallas. Dr Wiiliam McLendon is very nice and my kids like him. His staff is also friendly, which makes a big difference also.
As far as insurance, it depends on who your insurance provider is whether you'll be covered or not. He was not in our plan, but we had quotes from 2 other orthodontists in that were in our plan and he was very reasonable. We were still able to use our insurance but we chose to use out-of-network coverage.
The quality of care outweighed the fact of saving only a few hundred to go to the network doctors that tried to do more than what was necessary, in fact one of the network dr's was actually more because of this.
