I am 28 weeks pregnant and just starting my doula search. I am strongly commited to having a natural childbirth and want someone who will support my decisions as well as protect me from the intervention-attitudes of the hospital staff (I'll be at Cedars) while I am going through labor. Perhaps I would want a few hours of post-partum doula work as well. Can anyone recommend a reasonably priced doula in the Los Angeles area? Preferably someone you had at your own birth and have first hand experience with. Thanks so much!

I know a WONDERFUL midwife/doula in Lakewood and her name is Candace Leach. She's very calming, advocating and makes you feel like you've known her your whole life. she wasn't there at either of my births but took care of us for the 3 months of angel baby's pregnancy. here is her website www.birthgoddess.com and her number is ###-###-####. i don't have any personal recommendations as after the disastrous experience with my first child i do not trust any of the "good intentions" that end up as: "but this is what needs to be done right now." Lear to be self-reliant. consider longer time of labor at home - with my second i only went to the hospital in time for them to "catch the baby". look for homeopathic professionals who as a rule are very lukewarm to conventional methods. most likely none of them will be the "doula", but you can say it is one, and bring her to the hospital. your conventional doc does not have to know, if fact they prefer not to know that your birth went w/o "interventions" because you used homeopathic remedies.

extraordinary doula and goddess woman, she is a mother who home birthed both of her kids, and a yoga teacher, so she knows first hand. She was an essential part of the beautiful flowing home birth that lead us to name our second son Reeve (variation on Rive for River). She has a lot of experience bringing the home birth ethic to the hospital room as well. She supported not only me, but my husband and my older son, even my mother for the time before and after. I would almost have another baby, just to work with Carmen in that most intimate experience again. Definitely give her a call and see if it feels a fit!
