Scar from Bug Bites

My daughter is 8 and this summer she has gotten so many bug bites and scrapes on her legs and arms. Then the suntan makes them even more white. Has anyone used Mederma or something else to lighten the scar? Does it work or is it just a marketing gimmick?

What can I do next?

she is 8, why put all sorts of chemicals on/in her body? your skin is the largest organ of the body, anything you put on it will be absorbed into your body. Aloe or vitamin e which someone suggested are natural ways to go.
Here are some of the lovely ingredients in mederma:
PEG-4: diheptanoate

Allantoin: 5-ureidohydantoin or glyoxyldiureide. This substance is derived from the allantois, which is an embryonic excretory organ present in most mammals (but not humans). It is a moisturizer. (disgusting)

Methylparaben: Methyl paraben, a kind of paraben, and is the methyl ester of p-hydroxybenzoic acid.

Sorbic Acid: Also known as 2 or 4-hexadienoic acid, is a food preservative derived from the unripe berries of the Rowan (Sorbus aucuparia).

Fragrance.

Mederma is fantastic! You have to follow the directions exactly though. It eirked on burn scars and scrape scars for me .

I have used over the counter scar remedies for a burn scar. It went away so I guess it doesn't hurt to try.

Yes, Mederma does help - I have used in the past on scars. They sell silicone patches in the same aisle - expensive but they work on scars too if it is a really troublesome mark that makes you feel self conscious. Also I had a scratch on my arm that left a white line which annoyed me to look at, and I bought Bio Oil (they sell at CVS, Wags and plenty of other places now). The Bio Oil made a difference in just one application, the very next day it was like the scratch disappeared and never came back! So I am a believer in this one too. You might want to look both up online and see if you can print a coupon for either/or. Use sunscreen in the meantime because the sun will make any scars more noticeable.

I scar really easily, and I've always used plain aloe from the plant or vitamin E capsules. With E, make sure it is pure. it should be a dark yellow-orange color. E and aloe have helped me more than mederma.
