I have heard that the Myrtle Beach area is cool, and also about Hilton Head area. I have a 3 and 4 yr old. If anybody has any suggestions I woul dlove to hear from you.

Hi, T.

Myrtle Beach is excellent for children and adults. Activities are endless. While you're there, take a drive (about 20 minutes) to Calabash, NC. The scenery is excellent.

Our family loved Kiawah Island. We rented a condo on the ocean, great beaches, golf and a great kids program during the day, ice cream socials, etc. at night. Great memories!
Also - 20 miles from Charleston - beautiful city.

Hi T.,

I would highly recommend going to Myrtle Beach. We stay
at the Sands and Ocean Dunes Resort which is ocean front. They have a great waterpark for the kids with a lazy river, a kids club with activites from 9 - 4 which gives you a break also. It's is a very nice location not close to the downtown party area. There are many things to do in the area. We have been going for the last 4 or 5 years and my kids love it. My husband asked my 10 year old if she wanted to go to Disney this year instead and she said NO I want to go to Myrtle Beach.

I'am sure you won't be disappointed!!!

I grew up 30 minutes from myrtle beach and it is beautiful. However, I went to Hilton head island every summer for vacation and it is some of my most found memories. Myrtle Beach is the place to go when kids get older because its more of a busy scene and hyper crowd, They do have Ripley's and other stuff that Hilton Head doesn't have but a 3 and 4 year old cant really enjoy those things yet. IMO Hilton Head is the place for a family to have a nice beach vacation. I look forward to taking my girls there one day. And as soon as they are old enough to really enjoy places like Ripley's I'll then take them to Myrtle Beach.

I lived in charleston for 4 years. It was beautiful. There is a lot to do, and the beaches are beautiful. If you have the money, go to hilton head. It is the most beautiful place on earth (well, not really, but at least in south carolina!) Just be aware that it gets HOT in the summer...not just hot, but steamy hot. The humidity is usually at 100% all summer, but it gets a little cooler at the beaches. And, it rains for about 5 minutes...no POURS for about 5 minutes each day.

i used to go to sc all the time when i lived in georgia. myrtle beach was ok. there are a lot of things to do, they have a boardwalk with rides and games and stuff, but it is so touristy that there are floating billboards in the ocean and planes flying by with banners advetising stupid stuff like "taffy 3 for $1". and the beaches arent the cleanest or the most scenic. it is affordable, though. hilton head, on the other hand, is a golf and tennis community without the carnival and more upscale fetures and shopping. it is EXPENSIVE, but well kept and beautiful. great to rent bikes and go all over the island with all the bike trails! i liked charleston the best, historic and beautiful. you should check that out, too. have fun!!!

I was born in Myrtle Beach, went to school about 45 minutes from there and lived many adult years in Charleston. As an adult now living in MI we travel there with my 5 year old every year. Her absolute most favorite thing is playing at the beach. I would highly reccommend renting a beach house on Sullivans Island or Isle of Palms. If you enjoy history and architecture and the beauty of Live Oaks dripping with spanish moss and miles of marshland, I say go to the Charleston Area. I am not a fan of Myrtle at all. Lots of ways to spend $$$ with little substance. They have a nice aquarium and tons of waterslides and putt putt golf, and shopping. (Its a 2 hour drive from Charleston) Wait til your kids are older. Enjoy the beauty and serenity of the beach and the area surrounding while they are still young enough to not have much of an opinion about where they vacation. In Charleston there is a GREAT childrens museum, perfect for their age. There is a GREAT aquarium right on the harbor. The harbor has boardwalks and fountains to play in and observation area for the dolphins in the harbor, take a boat ride to Fort Sumter, see an IMAX movie if its a rainy day. All we do when I go back now is hang out on the beach and my daughter could not be more content. If you want a good tast of Southern fare, I know a few restaurants to check out. You can watch the days catch being loaded on to the docks from the boats on Shem Creek. That is if you like seafood. I could go on. Send me a note if you'd like more info.
