hi moms,

i'm at the end of my 16th week of my 2nd pregnancy and think i am experiencing round ligament pain, but not sure b/c i didn't have it with my first pregnancy. can anyone describe what it feels like or validate what i am feeling? sharp, dull pain low abdomen/upper groin. not consistent at all, but on and off. thoughts on if round ligament pain is what i am experiencing (strange to get it with a second pregnancy and not have had it with the first) and how long it lasted, if it got better/worse, and how you dealt with it. FYI i am very active and try and exercise every day.

thanks
A.

I had it with my first. The only relief I had was when I was swimming. It went away right after delivery. Sorry to say it only got worse. I did buy a maternity belt, because the ob/gyn suggested it. It really didn't help me, but it might help you.

hang in there!

I didn't have it with my first but did with my second also. Yes it was very painful and mine lasted the duration of the pregnancy. If I were you I would consult my OB just to be positive that is what you are experiencing but it sounds just like my pains. Especially bothersome when laying on my side and rolling onto back or going from a laying down to seated position. Honestly sometimes the groin pain was so bad when I was standing or walking I thought the poor child was falling out....lol. Good Luck and God Bless.

I had that pretty bad my entire pregnancy. My chiropractor showed me how to massage that spot and it would stop the pain.

My chiro is in south Naperville. Discover Chiropractic at 95th Street and Book. I highly recommend them. :)

Sounds like it! Let your doctor know, but I had this the first time around, and I thought I was having contractions. It was sharp and very painful!

Yep, that's what it sounds like. I had it with all three, and it seemed to get progressively worse each time. I remember it starting up around 14-16 weeks and lasting for the duration :( I think exercising may contribute to it, but it has so many benefits that I wouldn't stop unless the pain is really bothersome. It's always good to mention these things to your OB.

For me it feels like my muscles are ripping apart. I didnt have it much with my first or second, but with this one if I turn the wrong way or too fast it hurts soooo bad!

I had it with my second and not with my first, and that is exactly what it sounds like. I read about a woman who had her pain eased by golfing. Sounds weird to me, I don't golf, but it might be worth a try if nothing else helps.

Sounds exactly like round ligament pain. I had it in my second preganncy also. But not in my first or third. It lasted the whole pregancy. Not really much you can do except take it easy. (i know easier said than done ;-))
Good luck! A.

With subsequent pregnancies you will experience discomfort earlier as all the muscles are more lax from the first. I would look into a chiropractor preferably one certified with the webster technique, not saying you would need that type of adjustment, but someone certified that way has a better working knowledge of pregnancy. I know of several in and around the Chicagoland area is you are interested. Also, look into a good massage therapist who specializes in pregnancy. There again, I know of a few great ones depending on where you reside.

Yep, sounds like it to me. It can be dull or sharp, and can last just a moment or linger for a bit. It is most common when you move quickly, change position, stand up suddenly, etc. It is actually more common in second and subsequent pregnancies according to my OB. Unfortunately, it is probably going to last all pregnancy and will likely get worse from here on out, as your baby continues to grow and stretch your body out.
Of course, talk to your doctor if you are concerned about any pain you are experiencing.

Yep, sounds like it. Unfortunately there isn't anything you can do to prevent it or make it better. It's from the loosening of the ligaments that support the uterus. I had it quite often with my twins and very early on during this pregnancy. It went away as I was further along and I don't think I've felt it since week 22 or so.

I had all sorts of aches and pains--especially deep low achy ones during the second trimester. I just acknowledged it and moved on--there's not much else to do! :) I took a lot of baths ....

Sounds like it. It was worse with my 2nd....even worse than now with my 3rd. I ran till 30 weeks with my second and did group fitness classes so I don't think it has anything to do with activity level. If you describe it to your OB like that, they will probably say Yes. There isn't really a way to diagnose it. If it is in that area and isn't an issue with the baby or the uterus, I think they just chalk it up to that....same as they chalk up pain down the butt and back of legs to sciatica. I am 31 weeks with #3 now and haven't had it since sometime in my 2nd trimester. However, with #2, I had it the WHOLE TIME -- especially any time I was sitting at my desk for a while and got up too fast :P Good luck and hope it ends sooner for you!
