Hi moms,
I suffer from Restless Leg Syndrome and have for as long as I can remember. Does anyone have any natural remedies or supplements that have worked for them? I think I saw a post like this several months ago, and I think a calcium supplement was suggested, but I cannnot remember for sure and cannot find the link. My doctor prescribed Mirapex, but I do not want to be on a daily prescription if I can take something natural. Thank you so much!

So What Happened?

So last night I tried both the bar of soap and starting to take a magnesium and calcium supplement and while I will say it was much easier for me to fall asleep, once I woke up in the middle of the night the sensations started all over again and nothing helped at that point. I will leave the bar of soap under my sheet just in case, but I think the supplements are what helped me fall asleep easier. I will also try limiting my diet coke intake in the evening. Thanks for all the advice!

I have not formally been diagnosed but do believe I have RLS too. I find if I limit my salt intake, my legs are better.

Magnesium. Most Americans are very deficient in magnesium. I use the Natural Calm product at nite, along with additional magnesium during the day.

Also, iron deficiencies can contribute to this problem, so you should ask your doctor to measure your ferritin - it should be at least 50.

Try putting a bar of soap between the sheets. I remember my grandma telling me she did this. Also, you can check it out on snopes.com just type in bar of soap.

I can certainly relate. I've had RLS for at least 20 years. I tried the bar of soap & it didn't work for me. I also tried a prescription drug about a 1 1/2 yrs ago, but it made me sick to my stomach. What has worked for me the most over the last 6 months or so is limiting caffeine, insuring I'm properly hydrated and that I'm getting plenty of potassium, magnesium and calcium ( I take supplements). I went from getting it almost every single night to maybe a couple times a month. ( & that's usually b/c I didn't follow my own advice) Good luck!

I have tried the bar of soap, and it does work for leg cramps, but not so much RLS. I know caffiene makes it worse, so I try to limit that. Mine is worse at night, so I try to take a multivitamin with calcium before bed.

There is an effective, natural alternative to medication that I would be happy to share with you. Send me a personal message if you are interested, and I can email you the info.

I don't really think there is a remedy, I don't think they're really sure what causes it. I get it so bad when I take anything with Benadryl like Tylenol PM or Phenergan for nausea. If I were you, I'd take the medicine, but that's just me.
