Recommendations for Pediatrician or Peds Practice in or near Lakeview Area

I'm looking to change pediatricians and have no idea where to start! Anyone have recommendations on a pediatrician or a practice in the Lakeview or nearby area? I'm not totally anti-vaccine but would like to have a doctor who is open to discuss a varied vaccine schedule. Also, availability (office hours) and easy parking would be a plus as well!

We have used lakeview peds for 3 years. We see Dr. Newport she is fantastic and we have seen all the other docs they are equally good. Dr. Salem is a bit older and has a different perspective on things however we have not had a problem with her. The other docs are a bit younger and have a more modern view on things.

Hi Jen,

We see Dr. Robert Minkus in Lincolnwood. 6810 No. McCormick Blvd. ###-###-####

He is open to a varied vaccine schedule..and actually has his own relaxed schedule. It is a good practice with very easy parking.

Good luck! :)

I love our pediatrician practice...Lakeview Pediatrics, 1525 W. Belmont (60657). ###-###-####

Easy street parking all around the area (mostly metered parking), good office hours.

I've never understood the whole anti-vaccine thing personally. They protect our children and other people's children from life-threatening, preventable diseases. I feel that the research that supports not giving vaccines is terribly inconclusive for me to make a decision like denying my child a medicinal buffer to dangerous diseases. Sorry, small rant. What I am trying to say is that while I have never spoken to the doctors there about not vaccinating, they have always been very warm and open to any issues I've needed to discuss, so I'm sure they would be the same on this issue.

Oh and based on the 2 posts below about Dr. Salem, she is a little eccentric personality-wise, but she knows her stuff and isn't that what matters most? I think there's no harm in a doctor being firm on their opinion when they really believe they know what's best. She came to see us in the hospital at Prentice when my son was born a preemie and took EXCELLENT care of him while we were in the hospital and the weeks after we got home. So I will always have a fondness for her. If you want someone else at the practice, Dr. Meryl Perlman (Harvard educated pediatrician) is super, super warm and lovely to work with.

I love our peds at Lakeview Pediatrics on Belmont near intersection with Ashland and Lincoln. We see Dr. Perlman mainly, but all of the doctors have been wonderful with our two girls. We've never seen Dr. Salem, but have seen 4 of the other docs. I don't know their stance on delayed vacs.

Cari Tarnowski (AKA: Dr. T) is the best! She is not anti-vaccine, but she listens and ultimately it is the patients choice. She is the sweetest to the kids and she is very welcoming to all questions. I know some of the shots are already on a little bit of a later schedule here as well. I cannot say enough great things about her! It may be a little farther from you, but definetly worth it. Parking is always easy, I usually find a meter outside, but there is always the Dave & Busters parking lot as back up and it is discounted for this office. Here's the info:

I see Dr. Lyon's at Children's Healthcare LOVE HIM!!!!
I'm not sure if he's taking new patients, but I also really like Drs Monroe, Slivnick, and Rauen.
I do the Dr. Sears alternative vaccine schedule and they have no problem with that whatsoever. It's just a lot of visits for me. Parking is free valet and sick visits are easy to get.

Every doc I've seen at Advocate Family Practice on Ravenswood (Ravenswood and Wilson) has been great (with the exception of Dr.Ali - I've had a few problems with her and would not go see her again).
Our primary person is Dr. Charles Crotteau - he's great.

Jen,

We see Dr. Armand Gonzalzles at Riverview Pediatrics. I have two boys that are ages 2 and 10 months and he has had no problem spreading the vaccines out. He explained what each vaccine is and we came up with a schedule that we all agreed on, including putting the MMR off until after my son was 2 years old. He does not do the flu shot since I'm a SAHM and there is little exposure for my sons. We do one or two shots a visit, never more and he is willing to have an extended conversation about it all without being condescending or dismissive. I really appreciated that about him. It is located at 2345 N. Ashland and there is a parking lot with the building so no problems with parking. The phone number is ###-###-#### in case you are interested. Best of luck to you!

Children Healthcare Associates-affiliated w/Northwestern and Childrens. They are all good, but in particular Dr. Lyons or Dr. Monroe. Located at Diversey and Sheffield, validated parking. Nurses call back quickly, I can always get a sick appt. Not positive about the delayed vaccine scheduling, but I do think they'd be open to discussing this. ###-###-####!

Good Luck!

Don't go to lakeview pediatrics. Dr. salem will not even discuss delayed vacs. I found them to be quite rude.

We use Children's Healthcare Associates, and I would give them mixed reviews. Our doctor is Dr. Gosch. She's fine, but the practice doesn't seem very organized for accepting new patients who aren't newborns (we didn't get any kind of information packet when we moved). On the plus side, they are pretty responsive, and if you schedule in advance you can usually get a good appointment time. Waiting times are usually not too bad (even if you arrive early). I know they've been a bit flexible with vaccines -- they've always said that if we didn't want to do them all on the same day, we could come back and just see the nurse. Those appointments are pretty easy to schedule and run pretty much on-time. The parking is an added plus. We moved here from Michigan and loved our nurse practitioner there (and felt that the practice was very well-organized, etc.). She was much more supportive of/in tune with our natural/attachment parenting style (I'm still breastfeeding my 16-month-old, we're vegetarian, etc.). I haven't gotten an overtly negative response at Children's Healthcare Assoc., but I haven't felt supported in the same way.

Best of luck with your decision,
R.
