Hey mommas. I'm looking for a good appetizer to go with bread. I found a really cute bunny bread recipe but I don't know what to serve with it. I'm in charge of an appetizer for Easter for our family (17 people) and I don't know what to bring. There will be Ham and Meatballs for dinner and someone else is doing a veggie tray. I did lil' smokies at Christmas so I'm trying to think of something different but I'd like to do something creative if possible. I don't have to do the bunny bread. The recipe for the bunny bread is served with veggies so I'm looking for a different idea. I would prefer something with fruit or a hot appetizer. If you have any ideas let me know. Thanks!!

What can I do next?

fruit salsa: I've made this with watermelon, peaches, nectarines, apples, & a mix of several fruit too! Pick your fruit (or mix). Dice, add a chopped jalapeno, 1/2 a chopped onion, some cilantro, some lime juice (which will keep the fruit from browning), a little S&P. You can make this with/without some chopped tomato....I usually just use the fruit. Serve with some really good white tortilla chips. Yummm....making my mouth water!

A fruit bouquet. Serve with a simple pineapple cream cheese dip.

A fruited pizza: crescent roll crust, some type of cream cheese dip, & top it with a variety of fruit pieces! Super yummm. Cut into 1-2" squares to serve.

A tray of choc-covered strawberries....with....are you ready? Finely-minced jalapenos sprinkled on top! It only takes a little bit of the jalapeno to elevate this into an appetizer.

Fruit Skewers served with dip. Here's the link: http://allrecipes.com/Recipe/Fruity-Fun-Skewers/Detail.aspx. Beautiful on a large platter!

Lots of ideas.....enjoy!

I always bring deviled eggs because we always have a lot of hardboiled eggs around during this time of year. We keep them simple because some people don't like relish or olives. You just split the eggs, pop all the yolks into a bowl, add some mustard and mayo to make it a creamy paste, fill each little half of the egg white with the mixture, then dash the tops of them all with paprika. Easy and always a hit.

Spinach and artichoke dip - everyone LOVES this, and it would totally work spread on bread.

20 oz frozen chopped spinach, thawed in the microwave and squeezed out very thoroughly
1 large jar marinated artichoke hearts, drained and chopped
1 medium onion, chopped and sauteed in olive oil until translucent
about 20 oz reduced fat sour cream
1-2 cups shredded cheese: cheddar, mozzerella, fresh parmeasan, whatever you have on hand
1 tbsp italian seasoning

mix everything together so it's creamy, and put in a greased glass dish. bake (at whatever temperature 325-400) until bubbling.

For extra yummyness, top it with olive oil coated breadcrumbs before putting it in the oven.

*Cut up fruit w/chocolate sauce.
*Spinach dip in bread bowl. You buy small sourdough bread hump, scoop out the middle and save those pieces chopped up to dip into the dip inside the bread.
*Sourdough bread slices (found in deli area in supermarket) served w/pre-cut cheese slices and salami. Hot, sweet mustard served on side w/green & black olives.
*Crostini bread w/any kind of spread on top.

My Fav recipe of all time for appitizers that I usually serve with chips but can also be served with bread. Super easy, super cheap and seriously super yummy

1 tube of sausage (sage flavor)
1 can of rotel
2 things of cream cheese

cook sausage, then through sausage, rotel and cream cheese all in a crockpot, cook on high til cream cheese is melted and hot.
For your gig, I would recomend doubling the recipe.

Someone brought this to our SuperBowl party and they were OUTSTANDING. If your group likes things on the spicy side, you should consider giving this a try...

Use whatever kind of hot peppers you want. The original recipe called for pablamos, but the grocery store did not have them this time. I used jalapenos and removed the seeds (I am kinda a whimp with too too hot.)

Wash and clean the peppers, slice them in half and pat them dry.
1 - 8 oz cream cheese (You can use lite if you want, I did)
1 package of bulk pork sausage -- Hot or spicy (I used Hot)

Brown the sausage. Add the cream cheese. Mix together. Stuff the peppers. Bake at 350 for 30 minutes or until the pepper are cooked thru.

So easy! And usually a big hit with anyone that likes spicy. Enjoy!
