Question About Sparkling Wine from Someone Who Knows NOTHING About Alcohol..

Hey Ladies,
This is going to sound ridiculous but I need some advice about wine. I have never been a consumer of alcohol, quite frankly because I just never liked the taste. I was at Johnny Carino's the other day and sampled some red sparkling wine called Banfi Rosa Regale, Italy. I really liked it! I've heard that red sparkling wines are not common. I'd like to try to find a red sparkling at the local store...Walmart, Kroger, World Market. It's just walking into the wine section to me is just like walking into a foreign country. What in the world am I looking for? Any suggestions for something sweet and sparkling???

What can I do next?

Barefoot wines are good and they have a sparkling red moscato. I haven't tried it, but I like their wines and red moscato is a sweet wine. They also have a "Refresh" line which is fizzy and they suggest it be served over ice. The summer red from that line is very good. Price point is around $8 per bottle and they are available at grocery stores, etc.

Best sparkling red wine would be any sort of Lambrusco :)

I call them Kool Aid wines. Just about every grocery store has some version of them and most of them taste pretty much the same. Most wine drinkers won't drink them which is why there is always such a small selection.

Just ask your grocery store to point you in the right direction and go from there.

In my grocery store they are right next to the wine coolers.

i hear ya! i am a wine dummy, but i know i like sweet and sparkling too. there are plenty of sparkling reds, not as common as the whites but they're out there. have you tried spumante? you can get it in nice little teeny tiny splits, perfect for those of us who imbibe very infrequently.

I know nothing about wines or any type of alcohol. I was in Canada several years ago and did some wine tasting. The only wine that I actually thought was decent was an Ice wine, aka dessert wine. Although I have never bought any, my In Laws only have found it at a store that only sells alcohol.

Google it.
Try your local liquor store.
You may like Moscato also - it is white, very sweet, and sparkly.

Instead of a grocery which has limited selections unless you are at a specialty grocery, the selection may be sparse.

We love red wines and we drink Kendall Jackson, Sterling, Rodney Strong, J Lohr, to name a few.

I am not crazy about sparling wines but you will get a better selection at a wine/beer store or someplace that has employees that know wine and can guide you to find your choice.

I don't know if you have these stores, but since we are both in North TX area, here are some good ones.... Siegels, Goody's, Specs, Centennial, Market Street, Whole Foods. Maybe you have one of those!!

Good luck!

I like absolutely no wine except the moscato from the olive garden. They also sell a sparkling red they call roscato. They sell it at binnys. Good luck

Honestly, your best bet is to just give them a try. The sparkling red selection at the grocery is going to be pretty small. If all else fails, you can use a site like this while you're standing in the store. Just put in the winery name and it will populate all the vintages they sell and information about each, to include levels of sweetness/dryness. http://www.vinology.com/winefinder/

They used to carry Rosa Regale at Sam's Club. I am not a sweet sparkling wine person, but someone asked me to match a wine to German chocolate cake, and the Rosa Regale was just fantastic with it.

You'd have the best luck finding something at World Market. They usually have someone on staff who knows all the wines and can help guide you through what they have.

If your Krogers are anything like ours, just ask one of the employees in the wine department! They are quite knowledgeable, and probably have the exact wine you like!
I LOVE wine ;)
