Can any of you suggest a good prenatal yoga or pilates DVD? Did you guys go to yoga/pilates classes? I am just wondering what the best way to stay fit while pregnant and was hoping for some advice. Thank you.

What can I do next?

I absolutely loved Shiva Rea's prenatal yoga DVD. It calmed my nerves when pregnancy craziness threatened to overtake me.

Leisa Hart's Fit Mama is also pretty good.

Exercise is one of the best things for pregnancy. It helps you to sleep better, helps with back aches and just helps you to mentally deal with the weight gain better! It's also helps with labor and delivery.

I used Prenatal yoga with Shiva Rea in addition to my regular work outs with my previous pregnancy. I am currently pregnant and am doing the same work out I had done before I got pregnant (weight training, cycling, kick boxing, and walking). I want to start the yoga too but I just haven't made the time.

If you have been working out just keep on what you had been doing. If you are new just start off slowly and work your way up.

Hi S.,
I continued with my yoga instructor and we modified my practice during all stages of my pregnancy. I also used Rainbeau Mars prenatal yoga DVD daily (sometimes more than 2x daily expending on stress and how i felt). Because i had some complications and had to give up my normal workouts, I was only able to do yoga and light walking. These worked wonderfully for me and my son. There have been studies that have shown that staying lean and working out during pregnancy will produce leaner children that are not prone to childhood obesity. My son is an example of this (and we have had morbidly obese people in our family...).

As an aside: during savasana at the end of any yoga routine, he would get extremely active and I was always amazed at that, especially because
he was quiet (sleeping?) during the more active portions of the routines.

Good luck!

I like Priscilla's Yoga Stretch. She has a prenatal DVD. She is on PBS early in the a.m., so you can check that out ebfreo you spend any $. I only hope to look half as good as she does when I am in MY 70s! (And yes, I find her age inspirational...)
