I wrote a post several days ago whether I should take a pregnancy test or not because my period is 14 days late. I just took a test a couple of minutes ago and it's one of those tests with a "-" or "+". I got a faint "+" so does that mean I am pregnant? I know I should have gotten one of those tests that say "pregnant" or "not pregnant", now I am wondering......

What can I do next?

Congratulations! It doesn't matter how faint the "+" is if it's there then it's a positive! You're pregnant!

My test with my second baby was very faint, and of course was positive!! Even a faint positive is a positive, so I think you have a lil bun in the oven:D Wait a week and test again, 14 days late is like six weeks pregnant and that is still early, but I do think it sounds like you are pregs.

I got a very faint positive with my daughter the first time I tested. I waited a few days and tested again in the morning. It was positive before I even stopped peeing on it! LOL! I would test again first thing in the morning. The hormones are strongest then. But, chances are if you got a faint + you're pregnant.

The box usually says it doesn't matter how dark the sign is, as long as it's there. With my daughter I had tested and got what I thought was a "-" but a few minutes later thought I may have seen the cross line that made it a plus, but was so light I couldn't be sure. I thought it was negative, and about a week later my husband insisted I test again, and when I did, the "+" showed up right away. I guess I had seen a "+" sign the first time! Good luck!!

It doesn't matter the darkness in the plus line. If there is a plus in the answer and it was read within the three minutes then you are pregnant. Make sure that you read it within the three minutes though because you could have a false positive if not read correctly. So if you read it in time then... Congratulations! :)

Sounds to me like you've got a little one on the way :) If you test again in a few days it'll probably darker since the hormones had more time to increase. I always used the cheap generic 2 or 3 pack tests and they have always worked for me. (They have the +/- signs as well).

Good luck and I'm pretty sure I should be saying Congrats!!

14 days late is quite late. And any OTC pregnancy test should be accurate.

I false negative (thus the "-" negative sign) when you are 14 days late would be pretty accurate in indicating your are NOT pregnant. Though false negatives do happen.

Conversely, a "+" (i.e. positively pregnant) no matter how faint would be a pretty reliable indication that you are indeed pregnant. Congratulations! It might take a few tests to convince yourself that this is the real deal. So why not run to the dollar store and pick up a few cheap tests? Treat your self to a few confirmation test over the next few days. I remember doing that with our first.

Usually the first line is the control, the second line is the test for HcG... so what that means is + should be pregnant. (some tests show two lines side by side in the same window, others do a plus sign)

Check the insert that came with your test - thats the way to be certain you're reading it right... or even look on the outside of the box, most say there too.

Sounds like congrats are in order :)

You are pregnant.

The way these tests work, there can be false negatives, but a positive is a positive is a positive.
