Hello gang! I have been trying to get pregnant for a few months now. I just missed my period last week (supposed to arrive on 2/23/07) and believe I may be pregnant. My period is always here on time and never ever have i missed one. I took a home preg test and it came out negative, does that happen alot? My Dr. wants me to wait until next week, if I still don't get it, then to go see her, but i am sooo anxious.. Any thoughts?

What can I do next?

Hi S.. First off CONGRATULATIONS! I hope you are pregnant. Now, I had 2 pregnancies, (one miscarriage), and they both took what seemed like forever. I don't remember dates with the one I lost but with my son I got preg. on V-day and took at least 4-5 tests and didn't come out positive until April Fools day....AH. I was crazy. All I can suggest is try to keep busy so you don't go crazy and be as healthy as you can. Women know their bodies pretty well and if you think you are, I'd follow that feeling. Good luck.

Keep testing! I started a period two weeks early and I was afraid of what could be happening. I went into the doctors and they took a blood pregnancy test..supposed to be fail proof but it wasnt. It said negative that was last June. I was pregnant and I am expecting my second daughter in April.

I'm currently pregnant with our second child and I, like you couldn't wait. I took a home test 1 week after my period was missed. Actually, I took two home tests! :)

My doctors office saw me when I was 6 weeks pregnant, but all doctors are different. I've heard of some that like to wait until 8 weeks.

Best of luck to you!

S.,
I think you should wait another week and see what happens. Sometimes the stress of trying to get pregnant will make you miss your period and then there are those people like a very close friend of mine who was three months pregnant before the urine or blood test showed that she was pregnant. So it is possible. Just try to relax which I know its not easy but things will come in due time. Good Luck......

there are ways to tell without a test. Are your nipples sore? Do you feel like you are having the worst PMS of your life? With both of my boys I knew I was pregnant the night it happened. I just sort of knew it. But it is common for these home tests to have a false negative. I always bought 2, and would take them both. good luck! ~V

With 2 of my 3 kids I had to take 3 and even 4 tests before I got a positive. However I would do the first urine of the morning, the hormones are stronger. You are only a few days late so it may take a few more days for the hormones to activate the test. I knew (dont ask how) I was pregnant no matter what the test said. (That is just me and it sounds like you know too.)
Best of luck and keep us all posted.

Did you take it first thing in the morning, using your first morning urine? That's the BEST time. I did that and got a positive, went to the doc who proceeded to do their own urine test and got a negative (after 0900 when I had had plenty of water). My doc then did a blood test which came out positive. So, I suggest taking a test first thing in the morning. I tried getting pregnant for over a year and was the same as you, regular periods all the time. The stress and anxiety of trying and hoping can cause your body to be a little off. Or, your hormones may just not be strong enough to be picked up on a home test. Good luck!!

hey S., i think false negatives happen quite often, I heard that first response pregnancy tests picks up the HCG hormone alot quicker (or in smaller amts) or whatever, so that it is more accurate earlier on. I think you can and should just wait one more week, either u will get your period within that week, or by the end of it, take another test, either way you'll find out whether ur pregnant or not, and if not, then keep trying! best wishes!

i was 2 weeks late before the tet came back pos. turns out i was using one that isn't very sensitive. try 1st response? i think that may detect lower hormone levels.

That is very normal. I had a friend who took an at home preg test but it didn't show she was preg until she was four months, she did go to the dr. though and found out that way. she just wanted to see when the at home test would show.

Hi S.,
I pray that you are pregnant. You might need to go and take a blood test instead of the home pregnancy test. I took a home pregnancy test and it came back negative. I took it again 2 weeks later and it was positive but very light. I went to the doctor and they took blood. I was 6 weeks pregnant. Good luck and I pray all goes well.

It may be too early to tell if you are pregnant. Sometimes the HCG isn't strong enough in your system to be able to tell. Has your doctor suggested a blood test too see if you are pregnant. That's what my doctor does, just to be sure. There are also reasons why some women skip a period without being pregnant. Such as stress factors. If you have alot of stress sometimes it will make you skip a period. I skipped alot in school becase I was so active in sports. Good luck I hope you get your wish and are pregnant.

that happened to me when i was surprised by my second child. i took a test and it was negative. i was a little disappointed and a lot relieved. exactly one week later, period still didn't come so i took another, and bam! blue line! you MIGHT just be so newly pregnant that it didn't show up the first time. wait a week and take another. either way it turns out, after a week i would still make a dr. appt. so you can talk to her. GOOD LUCK!

When i was pregnant, the home test said negative until i was like 8 weeks. the ones the ob department and the doctors use are stronger, so they will be more accurate.

Hi there,

With my first daughter I had several negative home tests as well as a negative urine test at the Doctors office. I insisted that I was pregnant, I just knew something was off I didn't feel right. Sure enough the blood result came back positive :o) Home & office urine tests are not always 100% accurate. If you make a request your lab can run a blood test and you will have results that day depending on the office turnaround.

Hope this helps

most tests are not even 90% accurate on the first day of missed period. you're supposed to wait up till a week, because your hcg could be too low to trigger a positive test even with a healthy pregnancy. hang in there and live as though you're preganant right now!
