Pregnancy- Anyone Dealt with This?

I once again have another question. I am 8 weeks pregnant with baby #2. Five days ago I started spotting brown discarge. Each day it has only been a little bit on a pad or underwear. I talked to an OB nurse who said 30% of women spot and not to worry if it is not bloody or accompanied by cramps. Well yesterday afternoon it turned bloody and a bit more than the previous disharge but by no means filling a pad. I did not have any cramping. Today it is now back to the brownish color. I again called the nurse' line and the doctor called back and since I have my first prenatal appt on monday I have decided to wait til then to check things out. There is nothing they would do if a miscarriage was happening. I just want to know if anyone else has had anything similar happen.

What can I do next?

This is probably not one of the posts you want to read, but my miscarriage started with something that was a lot like losing my mucous plug when I went into labor with my first. Then I had a ping, popping noise, very similar to my water breaking with delivery, and then I bled profusely--there was NO WAY to mistake it for anything else. But--I had no cramps the whole time. I wound up in the ER because I was bleeding so heavily, about to pass out--and still not cramping. The doctors were a little confused by that, but I was in no pain...I hope most of the other posters are right, though, and it's nothing!!! Good luck!

Yes, I had this with my first baby but not my second. It was terrifying, but like you said there is nothing you can do. i think I spotted for about two weeks before it finally stopped. I carried him to full term and he is very healthy. The rest of my pregnancy was very easy. I was told by my nurses to take it easy and eliminate any unnecessary stressors in my life. I really think that stress was contributing to my spotting. Once I was able to relax my spotting stopped - but perhaps it was just time as well. Either way rest assured that a healthy baby can be born.

I had spotting with all of my pregnancies early on so far. This pregnancy my third was the worst, I has hemorrhaging early on so lots of bleeding but all is fine. They are right when they say if you are miscarrying there is nothing they can do. Lots and lots of woman bleed early on and it does not mean that you will lose the baby.

Hi A.,
I didn't have any spotting during my pregnancy but I do know that the brown discharge is "old" blood that you body has been holding onto since your last period. I hope this helps?

I had semiregular bleeding/spotting during my first trimester. It was enough blood that I would have easily mistaken it for a period, if I had not know I was pregnant.
Twice it was red blood and both times my midwife got me in right away and did an ultrasound to confirm the baby's heart was still beating. There is not much that they can do at this point, but know that her heart was still beating helped me to stay calm about it.
I have a healthy toddler now and the rest of my pregancy was pretty uneventful.

I had some spotting in my first trimester. Sorry- I wish I could offer more than that. I freaked out of course, but was told it was normal.

I had bleeding throughout both of my pregnancies(enough to fill a light day pad). As long as you do not have an infection like BV you should be fine. The doctor will monitor it throughout your pregnancy. I have Poly-cystic ovarian disease that may have been a factor in my bleeding.

Could be a subchrionic hemmorage (SCH) I had one with my first pregnancy and all turned out fine, spotting stopped at 20 weeks and I was told the SCH was healed. Part of the placenta detaches from the uterus and that is where the spotting comes from. As long as the SCH isn't to big, the baby will be fine. I guess it is quite common.
Good Luck,
M.

Yes with our daughter I had a lot of spotting. Right at the end of my first trimester I passed a blood clot that I was sure was a miscarriage. I had spotting that lasted for about two months. I was very nervous the whole time. But our daughter was born without any comlications. I also had a little spotting with our son too. He was also born without complications.

I had the exact same thing happen to me at 14 weeks with my third. I called my OB and he told me to come in right away. I don't want to freak you out, but my story did not end well. They did an ultrasound and we saw that the baby's heart had stopped beating. I think it is true that a large percentage of women experience the brown discharge and end up having perfectly healthy babies; hopefully that will be the case with you. Good luck on Monday.

Yes-I had the same thing happen and the dr. said there was nothing he would or could do so early in the pregnancy and that if it was still going on at 22 weeks to call him and he would make an appointment to get me in that day. It stopped at 21 weeks! I had a very healthy baby girl-now 10 is smart and athletic and sassy! It will be okay. Take it easy and eat healthy and the rest is in God's hands.

I was one of the 30% with my third. I did more than just spot at times, once I was rushed to the hospital because the bleeding wouldn't stop. I thought for sure I was having a miscarriage but each time the baby was just fine. They where never able to give a reason for it. I was a wreck for most of the pregnancy because of this.
Mine started around 6-8 weeks and happened just about monthly. I had bright red bleeding and just brown discharge and never painful.
I know just how scary it can be, I hope all goes well for you,

I had a small amount of blood during the first trimester as well. I freaked out too and called my doctor. I went in for an ultrasound and you could see a lil spot where the bleeding was coming from but I don't know what it was. It only happened that once and I carried my son to term and delivered a healthy boy. I bet it's more common then most of us think to spot during a pregnancy and even more during the first trimester. I understand that feeling though when you do see blood. SCARY!!! I'd take your nurses advice and see your doctor on Monday. Congrats on #2!

I have heard that some women bleed like this with a normal pregnancy, But, your description sounds very much like my two early miscarriages. Both were about at 8 weeks. There is nothing you can do to cause or to prevent a miscarriage. I'm sorry, but the only thing you can do is wait and see what happens.
