I just found out I am pregnant about 6 weeks along with our second child. I just started a new great job two weeks ago. We weren't planning on becoming pregnant but I am very excited. I was on bc but I had a stress filled month last month so anything could of happened. Well my problem is how do I tell my new boss that I am pregnant and will be due sometime in January. My fear is that he will let me go. He is a great boss and probably will understand but I am still unsure. Has anyone else gone through this.

I wanted to add I am showing like I am 3 or 4 months along alot quicker than I did with my first baby....thats kinda how I noticed I may be pregnant in the first place

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

I told him. He was totally cool with it and said we will work through anything. I was so nervous telling him tho. But it went very well. Thank you all for your advice I greatly appreciate it!

I would wait until you're about 3 months, you're supposed to wait 12 weeks before telling people anyway. Just explaine how you weren't planning this pregnancy but it happened around the same time this job started. I don't think he can let you go just for being pregnant, if he did you could sue for unlawful termination. I would research it just to be prepared.

I am not sure on what to tell your boss. However, one thing you should know is that, depending on what state you live in, it is illegal to fire you because you are pregnant. I just wanted you to know this bit of information. I actually work in helping pregnant women who have been fired from their jobs due to pregnancy. If you have any questions related to this matter, please feel free to email me back. I wish you luck!

wait until you are out of your first trimester...just in case.

Is there a probationary time period for your job? If there is, and it is a reasonable time before you really start to show, I would just show what an exemplry employee you are...otherwise, they can cite the probationary period as a reason to let you go, rather than pregnancy. However, I do reccomend that you be honest with your boss and tell them in a timely manner. Become familier with their policies as well.

I would not say anything until you are at least 12 weeks or possible wait even longer if you are not showing. If you are doing your job to company standards they can't fire you because you are pregnant. Good Luck and Congrats!!

Congratulations! You need to wait until you are 12 weeks... no sense bringing it up when things can still go wrong at an early stage... And if you wait another 6 weeks you'll have been there 2 months and people will have gotten to know you and your work better... not that they can legally fire you for being pregnant, but if they want to fire you they can always find a way.... so I'd wait.

He can't let you go because you are pregnant. It's illegal. Ask if there is a time that you can talk to him privately and then just tell him that you just found out that you are pregnant and that it was unexpected.

Wait until you feel comfortable, but check on what the laws are in your state. I know that in Minnesota you HAVE to tell your boss by your 16th week.

wait until you are showing atleast! i waited until 5 months to tell my job, even though i've been working there for 5 years. they had just let my husband go (we worked at the same place yeah) because of cutbacks and the store manager doesn't like me...so, yeah. turns out 6 weeks later i had to take leave anyway...my job was too physical lol. good luck.

I agree with the other answers. Even though you are showing, I would wait until you are through your first trimester. You don't "owe it" to your boss to tell them before then. You can't be fired because of pregnancy. If your boss tries to find other reasons to fire you, is the job that great? In my experience, my boss knew I was a great employee, was excited when I was pregnant, tolerated my pregnancy leave and welcomed me back after the baby was born. That's how a "great job" and "great boss" should be in my opinion and experience. Any boss who hires a woman of childbearing years must know that pregnancy is a possibility. Besides, my best and most productive years of work were the two after my son was born. My sales went through the roof and I won the top award in the company. I'm sure your boss will respond well.
