Potty Training - Regression

Hi. My 33 mo old little girl has been potty trained for over 6 mos. Lately, she's be having "intential" accidents (pee) on the floor. Is this a control thing? I don't want to necessarily punish her - and discourage the right behavior... as I was told and used advise to never make it a punishment. Advice?

What can I do next?

We had the same problem with my oldest (4 at the time) shortly after our third was born. We decided that intentional accidents were plea for some much needed attention. We set up a special day just for her with my brother and sister-in-law, the favorite Aunt and Uncle. We were very careful not to let on the connection between the accidents and the special attention. The accidents, which were almost three times a week, stopped immediately. Good luck!

A little bout me:
I am very fortunate to be a full time mom to two beautiful girls and a darling boy; Rena 5, Ailiana 3 and Micah 1. My husband is a wonderful dad and spoils me rotten.

Could be stress related to sibling rivalry (or any other stressors within the family). You might try putting her in pull-ups until she can stay dry again, but not necessarily having a big discussion about it.

Oftentimes, it occurs to little children that they'd like to be a baby again--they're not ready to give that up, especially when there's a younger child in the household. And so they regress for a while.

One book I read said to have the child practice going the right way up to 10 times each time they have an accident. You say to the child something like "Oops it looks like we have forgotten to go potty lets practice the right way." then take the child into the bathroom have them quickly drop their pants and sit down. Then have them stand up and put the pants back on. Take them to other parts of the house and do this over 10 times. Then also make sure you are having them clean up the mess. You say here is a sponge you need to clean up the wet carpet.

I know this sounds like it would take a lot of time but maybe the few extra minutes would be worth it in the long run. I'm still in the training process so I haven't had to do this much yet, but it sounded like a good idea.

You keep it from being negative but you also teach them what is expected in a firm loving way.

Good Luck

My oldest started doing that and she told me she was just curious. I would say it's either curiosity or for attention. Negative attention is better than none at all, so be sure to provide that positive attention she needs. Good luck!

Make it a GREAT week!

just hugs. we were making headway again this month with dd (3.5 yrs)her daddy left last night and today she said she is just wearing pull ups.
I have a feeling we are moving back again for a while.
hang in there...they won't graduate with pullups....(I keep telling myself this to try to keep it in perspective when I get frustrated)

Little kids go through many ups and downs when potty training. Just keep a positive attitude and try to find out what gets her excited about the whole ordeal since she is the one that is doing it. It may be a control thing for her but just channel her and show her how to control a positive outcome by using the toilet. Positive reinforcement is always better then punishment when potty training.
