Try getting some cherrios and putting them in the toliet and he aims at it...
And you may also want to try to put him on backwards facing the back of the toilet.

Throw some cheerios in his potty and tell him to "aim" and "shoot". Make it a game! That got my son potty-trained and he had loads of fun doing it. :)

Try letting him go naked on the bottom. The pull-ups and underwear feel the same as diapers and that gives him the sense of security, so let him go naked and he probably won't want to make messes all over the house.
Good Luck!

I have not had any boys, but I have a friend who has a boy and she purchased something that was like a game of sorts, in which it goes inside the potty chair and when they aim with their pee a positive sound (i.e., a bell)goes off, then you can applaud and reward them with whatever. Kids get excited when you make a game out of it.

my trick was chocolate for pooping and taking him potty every 30 min. It was a week of hell but he's 3 now and has been potty trained since he was 2 1/2. It just takes patience alot of it, still let him wear his big boy underwear and make a point reward big time.

I raised 3 boys and we had books in the bathroom and we could sit and read in there. Also I put some cheerios in the water and he would take aim. Make bubbles. Anything to make it fun. An M&M when he was good didn't hurt either. It is hard training with these wonderful disposible diapers now. I do think it was easier when we took off the cloth diapers. Good luck.

C.,
When my son was 3 he didn't want to use the potty either. Relax, he will start going to the potty, especially if GOOD OL' DAD, plays a big role. My son adamantly REFUSED to go into the "GIRLS" bathroom when I took him with me to the mall, then I met my husband and PRESTO...My son says I have to go pee (this was on our first date...lol). Before I knew it Jakob and Dan were back at our table and Jakob hollered out MOMMY I WENT PEE IN THE BIG BOY POTTY. Luckily we were at a very family oriented restaraunt and everyone smiled and the owner even brought jakob a congratulatory chocolate cake for dessert.
You can also try making a game out of it...put cheerios in the toilet and tell him to use his pee to try and get them to sink to the bottom, it may be frusterating flushing away perfectly good snacks...but it's cheaper than running hot water, using laundry soap, buying diapers, or running a dryer. Good luck with your adventure in the motherhood of a boy.

HI! I have an almost 3 year old girl who is giving me a run for the money in this department. My son, 4 1/2, was a piece of cake, but she is determined that things will go the way she wants them to. However, over Christmas, we used our last pull up and made the decision that no matter what, we were not going to go back to them. SO, we started by setting the kitchen timer for every 30 minutes, and when it went off, she had to go to the potty and sit on it. Sometimes she does it when we take her, sometimes she won't, will get off, and no kidding 3 minutes later will come to me with wet pants. But, those instances are getting fewer and fewer apart. I'm not saying it is easy, and it does take committment from you, but this has worked for us. And, now that she has had dry pants for a while, she really does not like the wet feeling anymore. Good luck, we continue on our quest to have her completely potty trained by the age of 3.

I'm with you and Ginger. My 3 year old son is showing NO signs of interest yet- I can't even get him to sit on the potty at all. And he really doesn't seem bothered being wet or dirty! I feel your frustration! I keep hearing that boys do things in their own time and when they're ready, we'll "know". I am sure none of us will be sending our little boys off to college in diapers, but it's tough to remember that sometimes! We offer for him to use the potty every day (and so far, every day he says "no, no, no!!"). But we'll just keep trying! Hopefully some other mom's will share their secrets with the rest of us lol :) Best of luck to you!

Hi,
I'm a grandmother now, but I had the same problem with my oldest son when he was 3. I went to the library one day and came across a book called "Potty training in less than a Day". It workded!!! Within 3hrs he was using the potty chair on his own without prompting. Needless to say, I used the same technique on my next two boys when it was their turn. Saved us all a lot of anxiety over the potty training issue. If you choose to do this, be sure to do it excactly as is described and it will not let you down! Good luck!

Hey there, I have 2 boys and a girl and yes so far the girl was easier then the boy was, but ive done different things, make a sticker chart and put it on the wall so that he can see it and when he goes put a sticker on but when he goes in his pants you take him in and make him take one off that way he realizes he loses one when he goes in his pants, ive had the best success with the sticker chart. Good Luck!!

It'll sound sick to any male member of your family but have them take your three year old to the toilet with them. My 1 1/2 year old is learning from watching. My nine year old could really care less if the door is open or closed so my little one saw what was happening and he looks up to his big brother so much that he's dying to try it. All the time we find my baby naked standing in the bathroom. We have to dress him in a onesy under his clothes so we don't have to worry about a mess in the crib at night.

My son has just potty trained in the last few weeks. He will be three next month. Our pediatrician advised us not to worry or expect potty training with boys until around three, so I wouldn't get too worried yet.

We finally had him going around without any bottoms on, because if he had underwear or pull ups on he just went. With nothing on he began to use the potty. We are in the third week of this and he is doing great. My sister in law did the same thing with her two boys.

C.,

I feel your pain. My son just turned 3 in December and I am having the same problem. He just does not want to pee or poop in the potty. I have tried 3 different kinds of potties and even a ring to go on the regular toilet like mommy and daddy do. I have had no luck. I have tried the keep him naked technique, but that didn't work because he HATES being naked. He will not go without pants. I've tried bribing him with chocolate kisses with a ton of praise and when it worked we made a HUGE deal of it (that worked once and not again).

I will be extremely interested in hearing the comments. And if you find one of them works for you, please let me know which one it was so I can try it.

When my children were potty training, I discovered an incentive that worked!! I created a fun, colorful basket and bought lots of tiny, inexpensive kid surprises. After wrapping each "gift" and placing it in the "potty treat basket", my child was then allowed to choose one of the gifts AFTER successfully using the potty each time. It didn't cost much at all, and it really worked :-) GOOD LUCK!

My daughter is being bribed into potty training. I only give her candy when she pees or poos in the potty. Find something that will work for you but I am not against "positive reinforcement" when it comes to potty training. Id that doesn't work you can do what my mom did with my littlest sister. She found someone with the Chicken pox and got her REALLY exposed. That child will not want to be in a diaper with Chicken poxs!

I am in the process of potty training My Grand Daughter who turned 2 Jan, 16th. I take her to the bathroom when I go and remind her every thirty minutes or so. I reward her with Seasame St, Barney, etc.. Stickers when she goes and sits on the potty and tries. I put the stickers on her hands and we do a little potty Dance.
I pee pee in the potty!
