Piano Lessons in Cedar Park/NW Austin Area

I'm thinking that I would like my four year old to take some piano lessons. She likes to bang on the piano and sing, and I think she's at the age where she could follow some instruction and start learning. She has said she would enjoy that. My first question is, is this a good age to start lessons? Secondly, are any of you piano teachers or do any of you know of a good one and how much are lessons costing these days? Thanks so much!

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Thanks for the input. Here's what I've decided to do. I feel like my daughter's a bright girl and could probably handle the 30 minute lessons, but I would hate to overwhelm her and discourage her from learning. So, I'm going to start teaching her a little myself (I have some piano in my background and feel like I won't impart bad habits). She turns 5 in September and if she still expresses interest, we'll find a professional teacher. I'll definitely keep the teachers names handy!

Larissa Ness is my daughter's and my husband's piano teacher. http://www.larissaness.com/
She will come to your home, and she charges about $25.00 for 1/2 hour. My daughter, who is six, has a 1/2 hour lesson once a week and LOVES Larissa.

Hi J.,

I'm responding for my husband, Mark Ramsey, who teaches piano, drums and guitar. On Mondays, he's at Austin Strings on north 183. The rest of the time, he's at other locations around the Austin area.

He says that typically, six is the best age to begin lessons. He supposes it's possible to start at four years old, but, he personally doesn't have experience teaching piano to children this young. He does teach a pre-K music class, though, and is willing to try, if you're interested. You may contact him at ____@____.com.

Hi J.,

I am indeed a piano teacher (in central east Austin). Generally I take students as young as 5 years of age, but if your daughter is able to pay attention for 30 minutes, then she would certainly qualify for lessons. My rates are $30/half-hour, $60/hour, which is approximately what you will pay for the more experienced teachers.

Hope this helps!

all the best,

G.
