Hello!
Once again I find myself turning to you great moms for input!
I have 2 large dogs (1 is 70lbs and 1 is 100lbs), and after many years without a family vacation, we are going to go on one. I have previously boarded 1 dog at pete and macs in Lees Summit. I called today and was in shock at the price- $450. before adding treats etc. These dogs are family members, but come on. So I am wanting to hear of other boarding or pet sitters close to me I am in the general area of Lee's summit/Raytown....if you had a bad experience too, PLEASE let me know that.

What can I do next?

S.,

We've been using pet sitters for years, I find it much better than boarding, and generally speaking, with two or more pets it's usually cheaper. Always make sure to use one that's bonded and ask for references. We use Fidos and Felines in Lees Summit, ###-###-####. Have only used her a couple of times since we haven't been here long, but she is nice and does well with the critters. You should be able to interview her and introduce her to the animals before your trip to make sure they all get along.

Check with large breed rescues.
They have foster families that
are fully vetted.
For a short term of a week or so
they may have one that has room
to take you furry kids.

Hi S.,

A friend of my does a ton of dog sitting and she's great! Her name is Jamie and her e-mail is ____@____.com stayed with our dog for a whole weekend and charged $100. I'm not sure how much she charges for two dogs, but she is probably a lot more reasonable than $450. You should send her an e-mail and she can give you a rate. Good luck!

Try Critter Sitters - they come to your home to take care of the dog & will walk them also. A friend of ours worked for them for quite a while & also spoke highly of the group.

Well this isn't your area, but it's worth the drive. I take my dog to a place called Dog's World of Fun in midtown. It's on 31st street just up from the Fox 4 news channel building.

They charge 11 dollars per day, or 15 for overnight. How long is your trip planned for? You do bring them a bag of food enough for the time you will be gone. But they are nice. Not as upscale as Pete and Mac's I'm sure. But the people are awesome with my dog. Mine goes overnight about 3-4 times per month so that he will get to play with all the dogs.

We use private sitters who stay in our home, but I do JRT rescue and have had to board some of my fosters. If you want in-home care, I'd highly recommend Animal Companions that someone else recommended. I've never actually used them, but I have a very good friend that used to work for them and know other dog owners that have used them and they are very competent and reliable.

If you want to board your dogs, call Linda Pulse over at Summit Pet Care. When I need to board a foster, I always go to her. They have a very clean facility and all the people that work there are great with the animals. Linda does a lot for the rescue community and the welfare of animals in and around the LS area as does Animal Companions.

PLEASE don't call on a rescue to see if they can temporarily foster or board your animals. There are lots of animals out there that need homes and foster spots in rescue are precious. On occasion, we will take in animals where an owner is in dire need of finding a temporary place until they can get back on their feet financially, find a new place to live, work out a domestic situation or return from a military assignment.
