We are putting in a swimming pool and I was talking to a friend of mine regarding the pebble sheen. She mentioned that if you use a darker color then in the middle of July your water will feel like bath water instead of a nice refreshing cooler temperature of which you would want. Is this true? Has anybody experienced this? We are still in the early stages so we could switch the color. Right now we have chosen Ocean Blue as our color.
I don't think I know what pebble sheen is, but we have a slate color pebble tec, and we love it. It looks like the color of the ocean. :) The location is the key and july it's hot all the time!!!
I don't think the color matters as much as the location of the pool and the depth. If it is shaded in the late afternoon it is more likely to be cooler that others. Any pool in the sun in Arizona in July will get rather warm. A deeper pool will take longet to heat up, and thus will tend to be a little cooler in the summer than a shallower one. The warmer it is at night, the warmer it will be during the day. Get the color you like!
We have pebble sheen in our pool & I can't remember the name of the color but its a darker blue. Our pool doesn't get any warmer than any other pool in Arizona. I have been in pools with a light bottom & they get just as warm. We live in Queen Creek & we have to keep a solar cover on our pool through June because it stays so cold. I think any pool in Arizona in the middle of July is going to feel a little like bath water. If I were you go with the color you like the best, you are the one that is going to have to look at it everyday. :)
My folks have a pool with the darker pebble sheen and it feels great all summer long. It supposedly absorbs the sun's heat better so it's ready to go earlier in the season, but if your pool is heated that won't matter. Really, when it's 110 out, even "bath water" is going to feel cool and refreshing. It's never hot (or anywhere near it), if that's what your wondering. I'm sure the pool people will be able to tell you what, if any, temp differences there might be between the two.
Yes, pool water in AZ can get so warm that it's not even refreshing but I don't know if the color of the surface material makes a difference in the temp of the water but what you can do to keep the water cooler is to turn the areators on. Make sure you have at least one built in to your pool. The aerator sprays water into the air when the pool pump is on (during the night is best), the air cools the water and the cooler water falls back into the pool. I have found that if we don't turn the aerator on soon enough the pool water gets too warm and stays warm. Last summer I started turning it on as soon as the water started to warm up and our pool was great all summer. Then if you turn it off as soon as the days start to cool a bit, the water will stay warm and you can use the pool a few extra weeks before it gets too cold. Enjoy your pool.
