Online Photo Sharing

Now that our son is here I'm looking for an easy and inexpensive way to share photos with the family and it was suggested that I use one of the online sites that allows people to look at your photos and order their own prints. Anybody like a particular site and why? *Note: I've been looking at both Flickr and Snapfish - I have relatives who are off the beaten path and it would be easier for them to get photos in the mail rather than pick them up at the closest Walgreens/wherever which in this case is 50+ miles.

What can I do next?

I really like using Picasa http://picasa.google.com/

It is a google product, a few years back they acquired the company because their goal was to be the best at data collection and organization. Since photos are data, they bought Picasa. Best yet... it is FREE. I use it to organize my digital photos on my computer and it is very user friendly. You can easily create albums, upload, and invite people to view your albums (or make them visible to the world - which is a bad idea!!)

Your family and friends can either just view the pictures online, download them, or order them. If you order them on line you can choose from: Photoworks, Walgreens, Snapfish, or Shutterfly. I've used all but Photoworks... they are all good and with Walgreens you have the option of sending it to a local store so it is quicker and no shipping. If you download it, Picasa has a lot more options of where you can send it, or if they use another photo organizer, you can send it wherever they want. My local favorites are Walmart, Sam's or Costco - I can't remember if they are included or not, if a company is not included, simply 'export' your selected photos in to a folder, print, and once you're done delete the folder since you have a copy still in Picasa.

I highly recommend Walgreens.com..You can upload your pics into albums and give your family your password info. so they can access them. This also prevents just anyone on the internet to be able to see your photos! They can order their own prints for pick up or you can have them delivered. I have been using walgreens for years and they do a great job! Good luck! My family is in Ohio and this what I do and it works great!!! They love checking out recent pics of my kids. Take care. P.S. And it's FREE!!

We like Shutterfly. It is pretty simple to upload photos and send an e-mail link. People do not need to pay to "join" or become a "member" to view photos online or order prints. Prints are very inexpensive, like 25 cents each, and can be picked up at Target within an hour of ordering. For our friends in the rural midwest, and our older relatives who do not use computers, we simply get extra prints of some of our photos and mail them every so often.

My family and I use Snapfish and I really like them. Since we are members at Costco, we also use their online photo lab. Online sharing is a great way to connect with family far away.

My son is 2 1/2 and I have used Shutterfly since he was born. I love it! It is free which makes it even better. I also had some of my photos on Kodak's website, but after awhile, they told me I had to purchase a certain # of photos or else they would delete the ones I uploaded to them. Needless to say, I don't use them anymore:). Shutterfly is very user friendly even for all of my "older" family members out of state. Good luck!

I use Shutterfly, and have been very happy with them. You can create address books of people that you want to send you photos to, or just send to individuals. You can also choose to pre-pay for prints (basically buy packages of them up front) and that makes it very inexpensive to order prints.
