My one year old still has no tears when she cries. The other night she screamed fo 35 minutes and her eyes were not even moist! I took her to the dr for her one year check up and he said he has never seen anything like this. He told me as long as her eyes ae not dry to not worry. Does anyone have any ideas or similar experience?

What can I do next?

There are various conditions that can cause this; all of them should be investigated. Good luck!

I don't have a completely parallel experience however... My daughter never had tears when she cried, not until she was about a year. I remember the doctor telling me the signs to look for when she is dehydrated - that she wouldn't have tears but she never did anyway! She is now 16 months and has plenty of tears so perhaps your daughter is just a late tear bloomer like mine. Hope this helps!

C. - Please take her to a eye specialist - an Opthomologist. They are the only ones who can tell you if she has slow development, or something you need to treat. My body fkuids are thick, and I do not make many tears easily or frequently. My eyes LOOK normal, but in younger years I would often wakeup with my eyelids stuck to my eye, get little tears on my eyes, etc. Now I have a perscription strength eye moisurizer & that seldom happens.

Does she make tears when her eyes are irritated? If not then you really do have a big problem.

I'm a bit surprised that your doctor has never heard of this. My niece was like that and her dr said it was due to closed eye ducts. My sister had to massage around the area to try to open them. If they didn't open she would have had to have surgery to open them. Maybe you could check it out on WebMD?

I would get another opinion, a friend's daughter had the same problem and she had a clogged tear duct. OUCH!

Take her to an eye dr. I had clogged tear ducts, however I could still have tears my eyes were very dry and bothered me a great deal.
They numbed my eyes and put very tiny tubes in my tear ducts. It took 20 minutes and was a breeze. With a child it may be more in depth or not even sure they would perform it on a child.
It is very common for young children or babies to have clogged ducts. Try a warm wash cloth on her eyes and just leave them on there a few times a day. If they seem crusty, or something that is a sure sign they are clogged too.
Kids can pitch tearless fits, I have had that many times. It is a matter if she NEVER sheds a tear. Make sure she has 6 to 8 pee diapers a day too to ensure it has nothing to do with hydration but my suggestion is take her to an eye dr.
