According to the ovulation tests I took this month from day 13 I did not ovulate. Now I am 5 days late but the home pregnancy test I took showed negative. How is this possible. I have never missed a period unless I was pregnant.
I am so frustrated we have been trying for a baby for over 2 yrs . According to my doctor everything is fine.

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Thanks for all the responses.
Unfortunately I got my period this morning.
I just wanted to add that it has been over a 2 year long journey for us so far with many tests and trips to the doctors. According to my blood-works everything is fine and the ultra-sound also do not indicate any problems. I have been using ovulation tests which shows that I am usually ovulating around the 13th...so I have been keeping tabs I have just not been fumbling in the dark. As in regards to chlomid my gynecologist did not want to put me on that as my hormonal levels are normal and it is taking chlomid is not without risks.
Every month I feel so useless. Thanks again for all the positive responses..

I have not read any other responses so this may already have been suggested- see a fertility specialist. Two years is long enough. It IS possible that "everything is fine" medically but you want to be pregnant. Best wishes.

First even though what I am about to say is the hardest thing to do you have to try to stop stressing so much! I went through the same thing so I know your frustration but you have to get to a point where you can calm down and just let things happen.....your putting a strain on your body and making it harder to conceive. I would wait another 5-7 days before taking another one. The stress might be the reason your period has not come, it could also be that you are prognant and not enough of the hormones have kicked into register a positive test yet...it happens. If you are truely not ovulating then go back to you OB and tell them to run an ovulation test on you. If that comes back negative or in some cases since you have been trying so long they can give you something called chlomid. We struggled a lot and had two miscarriages that caused my body to go crazy and I stopped ovulating. My OB put me on chlomid and I got pregnant the first month. YOu take the drug on certain days through your cycle then at the end of the month you take a blood test to chekc your levels for ovulation.....I did that and they told me the test came back ans said I didn't ovulate...went back to the doctors a week later to start the progesterion to start my period again, cause it wasn't coming on its own, they give you a pregnancy test before they give it to you cause it can cause miscarriage....I was pregnant!.......Sometimes we ovualte at different times then the norm and so we are tested on the worng days for our cycles or body......Give it some time. Sorry to overload you with my story just wanted to show you not to give up. i had to do this with two of my three. There is also a herb called red glover that is suppost to help aid in fertility. if you end up not being pregnant try to relax and go at it again. Call your doctor and if you haven't already tried the chlomid ask them about it. After trying for 2 years they should be more than willing to help you furtuther....Good Luck and don't give up.

I recommend charting too as a previous person noted. (Taking charge of your fertility) When I started charting I realized that most months I don't ovulate until days 18-20. No wonder the ovulation kits never showed me ovulating! If you haven't been charting then you may have been focused on the wrong days of the month for OV.

I too have been trying for over 2 years. I have a 4 year old that was conceived hardly trying. But #2 has been elusive. Another thing I have learned while charting for the past 2 years is that about 1 time a year I have a cycle when I don't ovulate. I know this because my temps don't fluctuate. Most women have one of these cycles a year. These cycles are unusually long. In fact I am in one right now! I am on day 39 but have a negative pg test and my breasts are not sensitive which they always get when I am preggers. On a side note, the last time I got pg, was after one of these cycles! Unfortunately we lost the baby. I am starting IVF this month so hopefully the stars will align! Good luck to you.

Just read your update and want to add one thing. All my blood tests looked great too. It wasn't until I did my first IVF that we learned that my eggs were below average. What I don't think the doctors make clear is that if your blood levels are bad, that is a good indicator that there are problems. But if your blood levels look good, that really doesn't tell us anything about the QUALITY of your eggs. Something I wish I knew sooner. I would have been more aggressive sooner. I am not a doctor but I don't think chlomid is very helpful for someone who is ovulating but can't get pregnant. See what else your doctor can offer? IUI with injectibles will up your odds due to the number of eggs produced. I KNOW how frustrating all this can be. It is not fair. I wish you the best of luck in your journey!

I have been trying for over 3 yrs now. I am actually glad you posted this question. I just started charting my cycle as well. I have some that are very long and some that are very short. I would definitely chart your cycles no matter what. And see a specialist. I think I am gonna ask my ob about that ovulation test. I knew there had to be something they could test for. I got a lot of positive ideas reading your responses. I wish you best of luck Let me know how it goes. Susana M. ~

chart your cycles... this way you can in fact have a better idea IF you are ovulating or not... it's simple , easy and cheap...
if you don't know how to do it, grab a copy of the book, take charge of your fertility... many good guidelines in there..
ovulation kits are only so helpful.. they detect the LH surge in your body which isn't truly indicative of your having ovulated...also, your periods change throughout your life time .. just because you never missed a period before doesn't mean you can't or won't again... stress and so many other factors play into one's cycle and how it works...
I highly advise grabbing that book and becoming very aware of what's going on with your body.
Best of luck

This is pretty typical if you do not ovulate--it takes longer for the hormones to build up to release the lining of the uterus. A very helpful book is _Taking Charge of Your Fertility_ by Toni Weschler. It will teach you all about your cycle and how to chart it and will save you a ton on the ovulation tests because it will narrow down the days you will use it to just one or two days a month. You will learn a lot about your cycle, including when you ovulate as well as how long between your ovulation and your period--for example, if you have a short luteal time (less than 10 days) you might get pregnant but your body sheds it before it has a chance to really root itself. If you chart, you could then tell your doctor and they can give you hormones to keep the luteal phase longer. There is also a software program that goes with the charting if you prefer computer over paper charting. Either way, get the book. There are many used copies around (last look, 29 used on Amazon). It was a huge help to me.

Two years is plenty long enough. I would go see a reproductive endocrinologist. They will do a zillion tests and figure out everything that could be affecting your fertility. Some times it's a lot of little things that need tweaking rather than one big thing. Also, these are the folks that you go to when the fertility doctors fail. This is where we went first. We saw Mary Wood-Molo in Chicago, who is a rock star. She found a small polyp in my uterus that was acting like an IUD using the same test that other doctors had done but missed the polyp. She also found a few small hormonal problems that were on the fringes of normal, but improved dramatically with medication/hormonal supplementation. In ten years I had never gotten pregnant. After I saw her, I've gotten pregnant my first try for 3 pregnancies--no artificial insemination or IVF or anything. Good luck.

The body can play many strange tricks on you especially when you want something so badly you can taste it. The home tests do say that they are only accurate to a certain pertcentage. I would probably see your doc if you are still late after a couple weeks.

I took a test a week after I was pregnant and it showed negative too. Don't stress, just try a test again in a couple weeks. I know it is hard to wait. I did that too, taking a test every week!
