My department is moving to new offices. I am very excited about this. I will have a brand new, bigger office, with brand new furniture....and no windows! I have never had an office with no windows and frankly I am not looking forward to that part of the deal.
So I am in need of suggestions. How can I make my office feel a little less like a dark box? I am thinking about a nice lamp, and other things to make it cozy. Painting is not an option, the walls are white and have to stay that way.
What about plants? I would have access and ability to put them in the sun for part of the day, but are there some plants that can survive a no window office?
Any suggestions you have to help make my office cozy and not claustrophobic will be greatly appreciated!

Lamps... but tall floor lamps which direct light UP. Directing light UP... it bounces off of the ceiling and creates a softer lighting and more ambient. And is better for the eyes when working. Much more effective, than lamps on a table with a lampshade on it.
Also, lamps on a table, can glare in the eyes... being that it is at eye, level.
I like your idea of the lamp. What about bonsai tree? I'm not sure about how much light, if any, they need. Can you hang a nice scenic painting? What about silk plants/flowers? If you have visitor office chairs, what about a couple of colorful throw pillows on them. You could set out some pics of your family in nice frames and a candy dish. You will always have visitors then!

Oh dear, I feel sorry for you. I have an office with no windows, just a narrow evidence slot that I CALL my window. It could be a beautiful day or raining cats and dogs and I wouldn't know unless I go out to the hallway. Plants have never done well in my office, but maybe you could put a rug down, or get a silk plant? Also, change the lighting..a nice lamp with some soft light would be better than florescent. Ohhh, I did that - after having an office with windows for years, I switched jobs and my new office - though absolutely huge - had no windows. So, I hung my favorite Salvador Dali prints on the wall, got a groovy lamp for my desk and a couple of floor lamps - I hate overhead fluorescent lights - tossed some throw pillows on the guest chairs and made it look more like a living room with a desk and a file cabinet than an office. It came out nice and reflective of my personality - I enjoyed walking into it every morning.

I have always put plants in my widowless offices. They grow just fine with florescent lighting. You can also put UV light bulbs in your lamp.

Would mirrors maybe reflect the light and give you kind of a window-like effect since you look into them? Just a thought.
