For my husband's 1st father's day I gave him books. kids books about dad. one I remember was My Dad by (i think) Anthony Browne. And Target always has a dad t shirt. World's best dad or what ever. Michaels' sells steping stone kits, and you could do a hand print.

My husband wears cuff links, so I found a great pair on RedEnvelope.com that are like lockets. His initial is on the outside and on the inside I put pictures on our son and myself. He loves them.

I also gave him a book to read with our son called "Daddy Hugs" by K. Katz. There are any number of great "Daddy" books just do a search on Amazon or ask at the local bookstore. They will probably have a display setup for Father's Day.

This year is his second and our son is 18 months old. I am getting a "flip book" made of our son signing "I love Daddy." They are very inexpensive and can be ordered over the Internet. You just give them a 10-15 second video and they turn it into this adorable flip book. They are very reasonably priced, less than $10.

I'm also doing a photo paperweight for his desk at work. Aaron Brothers has this cool glass cube photo paperweight that holds several pictures. Very clean and contemporary.

Hope this helps. Congratulations and have a great day celebrating!

Oops! Almost forgot...I took a picture of my husband as a baby and had it put on a onesie for my son. He then dressed up wearing a picture of his dad as a surprise. My husband loved it.

One fun thing my kids do for us on mother's/father's day is a little coupon book. You can make a cute little coupon book from the baby to daddy, saying things like "one whole night of sleep - I won't wake you at all" or "a day of no crying and fussing" or "one hour of snuggling with you" or "I'll let Mommy make breakfast in bed for you and I won't bother her while she makes it" - things like that.

Also, as for a day out, it's fun just to have a family day at the beach or bay or a park somewhere with a picnic.

Hi N.,

For our first Father's Day I took my son(& a friend) to a pottery place where you could paint different objects. We picked out a football and while I painted it my friend entertained the baby. After we were done we dipped my sons feet in some paint and placed his feet in the center of the football. We wrote Happy Father's Day underneath. They galzed it and "fired" it and we picked it up a few days later. He displays it on his nightstand and he loved it.
Good Luck....

I wrote a poem coming from my daughter about her daddy. Then I took the very first picture of him holding her for the first time after she was born and I combined the two into one sheet (using microsoft word). I bought a frame and gave it to him. He really loved it! It hangs on our wall today 4 years later.

Hi
Have you seen all the cool photo products out there. You can go to Sav-on, Walmart, etc and make a mouse mat, tie, pillowcase, coffee mug etc. There are also great sites like shutterfly, kodakgallery, winkfash and heritage makers that let you make photo books. How about "Daddy's first year with ...... (baby)".
Good luck

For my husbands first Father's Day I gave him the book by Tim Russert re: his relationship with his father and the other book which came after. For his second Father's Day I gave him a book I created on Shutterfly including pictures of he and our son together for the first two years. That picture book was very personal and special. It is something easy to do and would be great for a first Father's Day. Good luck finding that super special gift for such a special day.

I must admit, I was more looking for ideas than looking to offer a suggestion when I opened this request. What I just learned is, it TOTALLY makes a difference depending on what your hubby's like...my husband wouldn't even be able to readily identify locket-cufflinks, but how great for that type of guy! My husband is somewhat of a minimalist and would be dismayed with anything that didn't have a practical use, so I plan to make a picnic blanket with hand prints and maybe a quote or two from the older one (like "daddy horsey!" and "I gotta get my sword and fight the dragon"). My boys are 2 3/4 years, and 15 mo old.
I think hand prints on something that will last for a long time is always a cool idea, and acrylic paint works on terracota and on fabric with lasting results.

At a birthday party that we attended, another dad was talking about mother's day and how upset his wife had gotten with him on that day. His comment that stuck with me was, "all we want is a 12 pack and a back rub for father's day". I thought maybe I'd throw those in for good measure, but mostly for a good laugh!

My husband and I are not so much into gifts as we are into making that day memorable. It would depend on your budget,
but I took him on Sunday Brunch on a Hornblow Cruise. We took pictures on the deck of the ship and the food was really great. It was totally unexpected (since we've been here since '93) as well as memorable. He surprised me with a hot air balloon ride for Mother's day--that's more expensive, but I won't be forgetting it anytime soon!

Good luck!

Hey Nicole-
You can get stepping stone kits from Michaels and make one with your daughter's hand and foot prints in it. I did that years ago when my kids were young and we all love them. Have fun!

I bought non toxic poster paint in blue and made hand and foot prints on paper. I then wrote dad a note, from baby, about all the things I was thankful for and what things baby was looking forward to, in the future. We put it in the scrap book. You could do one each year to watch baby grow and capture a bit of what's going on too.

Previous year I got him a photo coffee traveling mug from Starbucks. It allows you to put pictures inside.
This year I'm making a photo album consisting only photos of him with the kids from www.mypublisher.com
Check out their website, I've ordered from them before and the quality is great!
Hope that helps!

I posted this exact same question afew weeks ago. The responses that I got included..a card with a print of the childs foot/hand, breakfast in bed, imprint of foot or hand from kit bought at craft store, photo book of dad and I in the first year, sex, memorable activity with child...I am sure that there are more that I am not remembering off-hand. I think you can look them up in past post log. Good luck!

There is a website that will personalize onesies. You can make it say Happy Father's Day or Daddy's little Girl, etc, or whatever works for you. www.makeaonsie.com. Or if he's a sports fan, you might be able to find a onsie jersey for his favorite team. I know you have a girl, but it could still be cute (I'm thinking about doing it for our little girl for father's day myself.)

Shutterfly has all sorts of gifts that you can put the baby's picture on. Each December I make my husband a calendar for the following year with pictures of our son and our family. He loves it! (I use the same calendar with some minor changes for the grandparents as well!)

My husband loves football and for his first father's day I went on the NFL website and was able to get a little football made with our son's picture on it. I would have done the same thing if I had a daughter. If your husband likes a particular sport you may be able to do something similar.

Nothing like a home made present. Maybe you can give him an album with pictures of your little one and him through his first year as a daddy. You can get really creative. How about giving it to him after a nice picnic somewhere beautiful around where you live. Bring a basket full of his favorite foods, maybe a bottle of wine ancd cheeses and take a nap under the sun. Happy Father's day.

On my husbands first fathers day, I bought a T- shirt and paint. I dipped my childs hands on the paint, and placed my childs had print on the shirt, and wrote "My first father's day gift to my dad - my handprint, I love you Dad. love, (my childs name)" To this day my husband still wears it.

On my husband's first Father's Day, I bought my husband a "Fathers" ring from an online company called Limoges (www.limoges.com). The company offers very reasonably priced personalized jewelry to fit any budget. I ordered a "couples" personalized ring but instead of putting mine and my husband's name on it, I substituted our sons' names on it with each of their birthstones included. The names and birthstones completely encircled the ring so no matter how it's worn, one of our sons' names are being shown at all times. He absolutely loved it! He wears it with pride on his right hand ring finger as a symbol of his commitment to them and he gets asked all the time about his "Fathers" ring and he's always more than than happy to show it off. As a matter of fact, his other Dad friends saw it and asked about it and were jealous they didn't have something so special to commemmorate the birth of their children. Take a look at www.limoges.com; I think you'll find lots of great ideas. Good luck!

For my husband last year - I painted my son's feet in water paints (various colors) and decorated not only his card but also his diaper bag. On the front pocket I did a photo of him & his son (think it was the first one of them together)on iron-on paper (got it from Best Buy).

Then I put the tiny tyke in a oneies that said "I Love My Daddy." You don't see many of them...so I bought a plain one, did the same photo on the oneies with fabric paint. You can probably get the iron-on photo paper at a Michael's as well.

Congratulations btw on celebrating your FIRST Mother's & Father's days. Its amazing isn't??!

Feel free to get in touch with me since I'm a SaHM too!

For my husband's first Father's Day, I gave him the day off! He could do whatever he wanted and have peace and quiet. He watched football, read a book in our back yard. I brought him lunch and beer while he was out there. I took care of my son and had him bathed, fed and in bed by the time he was ready to come inside. Then we had some time alone together. Basically, it was a day of no responsibility. He said it was the best gift he's ever gotten!

This year I'm taking all of the kids little school projects, paintings and drawings and making a scrapbook for him. It's hard to keep all of that stuff and he can't really just put it all over his office. So with the book, he'll be able to keep it forever.
