Hello mommas! I have been having problems with my hips( mostly my right hip) since my daughter was born almost 2 yrs ago. it was mostly a shooting pain in my right hip down to my right knee once or twice a month up to last week.Last week i sated having the same pain only every day. If i dont move like if i lay down and dont move its only a dull pain but if i move or stand the pain increases and moves to my knee. My family has problems with Multiple Sclerosis and Musclar Distravey(misspelled). I was wondering if someone who has been through this can tell me exactly what the symptoms are and how it was handled. Thanks so much!!!!!

What can I do next?

I had the same pain for about a year now, but I wouldn't be worried about it being linked to a disorder. Since I started worked out over a month ago (a lot of core work) the pain is completely GONE! Apparently the weaker your stomach muscles are (ie...having a baby)the more lower back/hip/posture problems you can have, go figure!:)

Sorry you're having so much trouble with your hips. I just wanted to mention that my grandmother has MS and as of the current research, it has not been proved to be genetic. I remember her being so concerned that she would pass it on to her children and grandchildren.
Good luck!

Have you tried chiropractic? The nerves that go down your spine go all the way to your toes. If a nerve is being pinched in your lower back, it would cause the hip and knee pain you describe.

Also, if your family has a history of MS and MD, I hope you are taking Omega fatty acids every day. The nerves of your body are sheathed in fat; Omega fatty acids are important to support nerve health.

Look online for a chiropractor near you. Yellowpages.com also has reviews. Ask for a free consultation and make sure you feel comfortable with 1) them as a person; and 2) what they say about your health issues.

Hello Jennia,

Your syptoms are much like something I have experienced periodically for the last 15 years. I herniated 3 disks in my lower (just above my tailbone) back by simply lifting a box. The disks pinch a nerve in my back causing pain that radiates down my leg and into my knee. When it gets really bad it even hurts into my ankle. It can be managed with anti-inflammatories and pain killers. Often physcial therapy or visits to a chiropractor can also be a huge help.
I am sure with your family history you are nervous to go to the doctor - but go!! Diagnosis like MS or MD are rare and you may simply have a back injury that can easily be managed.

Best wishes!
H

I would have your cyatic checked. It sounds like what I have. Have you tried ice or warmth? Ice works best for me.

It could be sciatica (sciatic nerve) which is fairly common. If so, massage and/or chiropractic can help. If it is sciatic nerve pain, you will probably learn how to help yourself if you find that either massage or chiropractic helps. For instance, I have learned just where to apply pressure on my hip to relieve the nerve pain. Best wishes to you as you find a solution for your pain. Ice, heat, and pain creams also help. Muscle Rub, a WalMart product, is very inexpensive and it is good. Shaklee has an excellent Joint and Muscle Pain cream that is longer lasting, non-greasy, and lightly scented. Blessings for you, your baby and your hubby.

Hello! I too had problems with a hip after the birth of my son. I took him to a cranial osteopath for colic, cured within 3 weeks. So I thought, maybe he could help me too? Sure did! Within 3 visits my hip which hurt to walk was back where it should be and all pain gone. 8 years later it is still fine :-)

Find a cranial osteopath and it can be totally cured.
