My daughter's school is having wacky Wednesday tomorrow, and I have to take a wacky snack. Any ideas that don't include peanuts and are relatively easy to make?

So What Happened?

Wow! Thanks for all the great ideas! These will be fun for any time. As it turned out, I was on the hook for the "regular" snack on Wacky Wednesday, not the "wacky" snack, so I took something normal but I will hang on to all of these ideas for future use. Thanks again!

Since it is spring and flowers are blooming - a good wacky snack might be a flower pot filled with "dirt cake".
You get a new, clean flower pot. fill with dirt cake with gummy worms added. (Recipe can be found on www.kids-party-paradise.com/oreo-dirt-cake-recipe.html )
For presentation, stick in a stem of fake flowers. (makes cute centerpiece for parties - then later everyone finds out the floral centerpiece is a dessert)
Have Fun!!

Goofballs! haha! Really, they're called goofballs. They're delicious and very simple to make. You need a bag of individually wrapped caramels, a 15oz can of sweetened condensed milk, a bag of large marshmallows, and a box of rice krispies. You unwrap the caramels and put them in a large bowl, then put them in the microwave and melt them. It will take about 2-3 minutes but take them out every once in a while and stir them so they don't scorch. You'll want to do this until the caramels are all melted, then stir in your sweetened condensed milk. Once it is all mixed, roll a marshmallow in the caramel until it's covered, remove it, and roll it in the rice krispies until it is covered. They're so simple! The caramel will start to harden again with time so feel free to microwave it as much as you need so that it will stick to the marshmallows correctly, but not too much that it's dripping off. It's kind of like making a candy apple. If you want to be creative you can get some m&m's and m&m minis and make eyes and a mouth for them and some pretzel sticks for hair. Anything goes and they're delicious!

Sugar Free Gummies - using Jello, you can make just about any flavor or color, and you can create all kinds of shapes - anything you have a cookie cutter for, or roll into worms. Another variation uses Kool Aid packs for color/flavor.

Snowballs...
Take a bag of Oreo Cookies and crush them up. Mix in a block of softened cream cheese. (You can add more cream cheese if you like). Roll the mixture into little balls and stick a toothpick in them. Melt some Almond Bark White Chocalote and dip the balls in it. Place on a cookie sheet and slip into the freezer overnight. In the morning, take out the toothpicks and they are ready to eat.
SO YUMMY and my kids LOVE these!!! Not to mention your daughter will have a blast helping you make these.
Nothing to em!

How about "green eggs and ham"

Take two of those small straight pretzel sticks, lay them side by side on waxed paper. Drop about a teaspoon full of melted white almond bark right in the middle. (Making the egg white, while the pretzels are bacon) - then put a green M&M upside down in the middle of that, pressing just a little bit. It looks like a fried egg - but green for green eggs and ham. Have a little assembly line for your kids to help make however many you want. Let them sit about 20 minutes until set up. Kids LOVE doing this project, and they are quite tasty, too!

Ok...I'm not sure if this falls under the "snack" category - but it does fall under the "cute" category!

Hot Dog Octopus

take a hot dog - slice over half way up to make 8 "arms" - use mustard, etc. - to create eyes and mouth - arrange on a bed of blue or green tinted (food coloring) ramen noodles - to look as if the octopus is happily sitting on a bed of seaweed in the ocean!

I think that's from the Quick Cooking magazine - if you want to try to look up the real recipe!

try large marshmallow w/ pretzel stiks to make little people. Can add gummies for eyes or jelly beans. Just have fun. Or give the kids several items and let them make up a critter. They love this! -D.

12 small tootsie rolls

1) prepare and bake cake mixes,in any pan prepare pudding and chill crumble cookies in small batches add a few drops of green coloring to 1 cup of cookie crumbs mis with a fork or shake in a jar set aside
2)crumble cakes into large bowl toss with half of the \remaining cookie crumbs and enough pudding to make the mixture moist but not soggy pour in litter box
3) unwrap 3 tootsie rolls and heat in microwave until soft and pliable shape the blunt ends into slightly curved point repeat with 3 more bury the rolls in the cake mix sprinkle remaining white cookie crumbs over the mixture then scatter green crumbs lightly over top
4) heat 5 more rolls and place them on the top and barely sprinkle with crumbs from the litter box place litter box on newspaper and serve with a pooper scooper!!

This is really more "gross out" than wacky, but rice krispy treats, done the old fashioned way (you make them, not buy the pre-made...LOL)use multicolored marshmallows, when they all melt together they make the most horrid color, and then put gummy worms in them, make odd shapes instead of squares, kind of like mud balls. looks gross, tastes great, kids LOVE them!

I forget what it's called...something gross...but what you do is take a cup and put crushed oreo cookies (dirt), chocolate pudding (mud) and gummy worms (obviously, worms). The kids love it, because it looks so disgusting. It's not hard to make, and pretty cheap.

I don't know if it's too late, but I remember seeing "grape eyeballs" somewhere - just take grapes, and if I remember correctly, you cut a hole and shove a raisin into it and it looks like an eye. I think you could even do it with craisins - the cranberry raisins. Have fun!
