Need a Fun Place to Go on a Day Trip Not More than 2Hrs from Ft.Worth

My husband and I took our 2 1/2 month old daughter to Granbury last weekend. It was fun to just get out of town for the day. He is stuck at a desk all week and I need to get out of the house by Sat. We like to go hiking on neat trails and check out little towns. Anyone have any suggestions?

What can I do next?

Homestead Heritage is a wonderful place to visit and it is free. The have a working griss mill, pottery and blacksmith, a barn with things they sell. They have a resturant and bakery. It is like stepping back in time. It is in Elm Mott, just past Waco, so about 1.5 hours from Ft Worth.

Tyler texas is beautful this time of year, now it is a bit over 2 hours accourding to Google maps, (136 mi – about 2 hours 16 mins) but the Rose gardnes are fabulous and the tour of the Museum is fun.

55.3 mi – about 57 mins
Now Hillsboro is fun for a day trip if you want to go outlet shopping, they have some fun stores.

53.3 mi – about 1 hour 10 mins
Glen Rose has Fossil Rim like someone already said and also Dinosaur Valley State Park, cool!

88.2 mi – about 1 hour 29 mins
Texas Ranger Museum in Waco is fun and the Dr Pepper Museum is there too.

Don't forget to stop along the way somewhere and take pictures in the Bluebonnets, they won't be out much longer!

Hope you find something fun!

Fossil Rim is a great place to go on a day trip. They have trails where you can go hiking and they have lots of animals to see. Visit http://www.fossilrim.com/ and see what you think. We stayed overnight a few years ago and it was great for the entire family! Have fun!!

Hi A., consider the TX state parks, Possum kingdom and Tyler Lake. I'm not sure about little towns nearby to these parks b'c I'm not that familiar with TX either. We're transits too. The Dallas Arboretum and all its blooming spring flowers are really pretty this time of year if you ever want some nice scenery but closer in distance.

Turner Falls in Oklahoma is less than a two hour drive and is really pretty. The water is COLD. Arbuckle Wilderness is also near there - which is an animal drive through park, and they have some other activities as well.

If you want to take an overnight trip, Austin is fun. There are a lot of pretty places to hike around Lake Travis.

The Gaylord Texan in Grapevine is a neat place to walk around, especially if it is rainy or hot. It is very easy to push a stroller around inside.

The zoo in Waco is smaller and less crowded than the Fort Worth zoo. We have been several times and really enjoy it. They have fewer big animals, but they have some really neat exhibits.

Next weekend in Johnson County, they are having Antique Alley. It is miles and miles of garage sales and crafts and stuff like that. It goes from Cleburne to Grandview and then some.

Glen Rose is fun. Someone below mentioned Fossil Rim which is lots of fun. Plus, there are some dinosaur parks around there, but I haven't been to those. Oklahoma isn't too far when you go north. I think there is a casino in Durant as well as lots of hiking around Lake Texhoma.
