My little girl is turning one at the end of November. Do y'all have any ideas for treat bags for the other children? The other kids are about 18 months old and I have no idea what I can make for the treat bags.

I didn't start giving gift bags until my kids were older. With little ones I found it hard to find things that they wouldn't put in their mouths, etc and that would be approved by all parents. I handed out the balloons from the party when the kids were leaving. They liked that, it cleared my house out, it wasn't an extra expense, and it would deflate the next day and not clutter their house.

For my daughter's first birthday, I bought packages of bath toys and split them up among the kids. I went to another party where a mom bought a bunch of books on sale, put them in a basket, and let each child choose a book as they left. I thought that was a great idea! Target often has great seasonal items in those dollar bins in the front of the store. When my second daughter turned 1, I had a Peter Rabbit theme around Easter and got little board books, little plush rabbits, and gave them to them in an inexpensive Easter basket-- we also had an egg hunt. You may be able to get inexpensive Christmas stockings & fill them with little seasonal items. A lot of the "party favor" items are choking hazards for little ones, that makes it tough. My daughter's 2nd birthday I made home made play dough and printed off coloring sheets relating to our theme and created coloring books-- more of an "art bag".

Good luck!

Those are a lot of good ideas. Try orientaltrading.com for bulk items. I noticed kids like whistles, bubbles, things of that nature.

At my son's 1st b-day party and all of those that he attended, the gift bags included bubbles and coloring books and colors. Those always go over well...

I've been to two parties for little ones that age and the "bags" weren't bags at all. One party gave all the guests a cute rubber ducky with a ribbon around its neck. At another party, everyone got to take home a sippy cup (she got them at www.birthdayexpress.com to match the theme of the plates, etc.) Some other ideas along the same lines: beanie babies, fun hats (cowboy hats, tiaras, baseball caps, etc.), Playskool "wheelpals" are about $3 each at Walmart http://www.hasbro.com/playskool/wheelpals

You can make the presentation of them cute with a little ribbon, or by arranging them in a basket or decorative bowl and/or using them as a centerpiece.

When my oldest turned 1 I bought sand buckets and personalized them with each child's name. I also put in a little duck and/or other bath stuff. My daughter who is almost 4 now still uses the bucket in the bath. Good luck!

Bubbles are always a fun treat to give out at parties. I have gotten them in party packs at Target and Toys R Us for my kids' birthdays. (They even make ones for little hands that don't spill- we have the Dora one.) I have also got each of the kids sippy cups as favors, funny sunglasses and books. SOmetimes at Joanns Fabrics they have books that are fairly cheap that the kids love. Another idea would be coloring books. I try to steer clear of candy. Good luck- hope these help a little.

I've bought one of those variety packs at Target ($8-$9) that have 24 small cups of Play Dough and some accessories. These worked out well for that age group and were inexpensive when bought that way.

I also buy the packs of small bags of goldfish or fruit snacks to put in the bags instead of candy.

I purchased a case of "My First" board books from an online source and gave them as party favors at my son's first birthday party.

My son's first birthday is in two weeks, and I bought some small bead runners (wood block with a metal wire that has colored beads that can be moved back and forth on it) at Big Lots. They were a $1 a piece. I also bought a pack of Fisher Price Peek-a-Balls (like Peek-a-blocks, only round) and divided the set between the favor bags. For kids that are a little older (3 and up) I bought the 24-pack of small Play-doh cups, food-scented bubbles (YES! Like chocolate chip, banana split, etc., at Wal-Mart), and some "Build a Turkey" sticker sheets that were in the dollar section of Target...there's always great kid stuff there. Each favor bag probably averaged about $2...not bad!

Hope this helps!
