I want to know if this has ever happended t oany of your children or do you know what might be going on. My daughter is 10 for about six months now ever so often she gets these read splotches on her arms and her face. She also tells me she feels hot but she does not have a fever. We thought it may be a food alergy but we have tried to watch but we do not think that is it now. She gets head aches when she sees her biological mom on the return anyway. She also throws up at her biological moms house too. I do not think it is nerves but it can be cause mom lives with new men about every six months. Sick but we cannot really do anything about it. I am trying to find out what is wrong with my daughter. Any ideas would be great.

I would talk to her pediatrician. It sounds like stress/nerves to me. Extreme stress can absolutely cause physical symptoms. I don't want to speculate, as it could be nothing, but I would suggest to take these symptoms seriously. If she is throwing up at her moms house, then something is wrong! (Seriously wrong!) It could be a food allergy, celiac disease, diabetes (which can cause hot flashes and blotches) or some other physical cause.

I hope you find answers for her soon!

Honestly, I haven't had this happen that I can recall, but...What a doctor might ask is: Is there anything she's around during this time that could be the cause of it? You have to consider ANYTHING she touches. Certain toys, a new laundery detergent used, a new toothpaste/shampoo, etc. Is there a stuffed animal that she only sometimes plays with? She may actually have to see an allergist to be tested for certain things to find out. Sometimes it can be a new soap (which could have been used to wash a toy or something). Perhaps you could wash all her toys in order to "start over" and then the next time you notice these things, pay a little more attention to EVERYTHING that was around her in the last 24 hours. As best you can, of course. I would hope that her biological mom would be willing to help with this sort of thing. I hope this helps some. My girls are older, so it's been a while since I had to deal with the "little" ones. =) If you do find out, share with us so we might learn as well.

L., like many others, I have dealt with chronic urticaria (chronic hives) off and on for years. However, you don't mention if she's itchy or not. If they don't itch, they aren't hives. These things definitely sound like possible allergic reactions but I wouldn't just assume that's what is going on. I really feel like she needs some extensive blood work done to see if anything else is going on. Maybe even ask the doctor to check her ANA profile (this is something they check to see if there might be an autoimmune problem). However, I would guess it's not that serious. ...but I would explore everything. Back to the throwing up, it could definitely be related to anxiety too. She might not be comfortable around all of these different men. She may not even realize that she's stressed. Very often adults don't even recognize when they are stressed; 10 year olds certainly don't usually recognize it. Good luck.

I'd definitely ask her pediatrician about this.

It sounds like stress. It also sounds like she may needs some therapy to help her deal with some of the issues in her life.

Does she have to go see her mother? I mean is it mandated my the court that she see her every other weekend sort of thing? I would talk to the mom and see if the daughter can skip a couple of visits. Be honest. Tell her that you daughter is having some medical issues and you are trying to track down the source.

Good Luck

I wouls say a lot if her issues could be anixity and nerves from her mothers house and possibly those men that come and go. The stress of that can be over the top for her! Can with her dr. About it to make sure and if it is mom maybe another plan for visitation needs to be done. Hope you are able to get answers.

if you have already had her tested by a doctor for food allergies then ignore the rest of my reply. i developed food allergies in the third grade. it was when my mom went back to work after being a stay at home mom. perhaps the change and not understanding "why" caused the stress. stress can be a huge factor in health. i was allergic to corn, most fruit, all breads, even milk would cause me to have hives and something on me would swell up like i was in an awful fight. with the corn allergy it included anything with corn syrup in it too...all gum, most all candy. have her tested because you have no idea all the little amounts of food they put in everything. * another momma suggested benidryal (sp) it did not work for me i had to have a prescription that i took when i started to feel itchy. this was in 88 till about 93 then i got over my allergies..well with reaction of hives...i still need to eat super healthy or a whole other mess of problems appears.

Amanda C.'s response is spot on. I have urticaria (also spelled uticaria), a vasodilation of blood vessels. Allergies, stress, heat, sweat can bring it on. Here is a good website http://www.uticariarelief.com/what-is-uticaria.html to check out. It's nothing bad, but itchy and kind of embarassing. Talking about wearing your heart on your sleeve! People can always read my emotions by how red my chest is!

My son did something very close to this, I ended up taking him to see the Dr. about allergies. He was found to have cold acureia, had never heard of it before. He was allergic to cold things, ice, cold drinks etc. Have her checked it may be something like this. God bless all of you.

I have a friend with a condition called urticaria which is exactly like you are describing. It is definitely exacerbated by stress, but can also be caused by a food allergy. There are several different classes depending on the cause of the hives. A dose of Benadryl will likely alleviate any immediate discomfort.

However, I would mention it to the pediatrician...urticaria can also be related to autoimmune disorders.
