My Boy Will Be the Death of Me!

Good Morning!
Now that I'm breathing back to normal, I can show my story with all of you. Last night, I received a call from my husband and all he said was don't panic. Of course, you don't say that type of thing to a mother! I go what's wrong? His response, we're in an ambulance on the way to the hospital. I of course start panicking. My son was at football practice and had the ball. A kid tackled him and apparently the football went up into his ribs and completely knocked the air out of him. By the time my husband got over to him, he wasn't breathing, his lips were blue and his eyes were rolled back in his head. My husband said he freaked and started screaming HELP! Thankfully, someone called 911 and by the time the ambulances had come, he was breathing again. They took him to the ER and did an ultrasound of his belly and a CAT scan and everything was normal. He'll just be bruised and sore for a few days. I am so thankful for that!!! It completely made me realize that when our time is up, it's up and there's nothing we can do about it.
So, I guess my question is, has anything ever happened like this before to you? I swear my nerves are shot!!!

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Thank you ladies so much!! I have 3 wonderful kids and I swear I've been through almost everything with them. My oldest broke her right arm . I came home from the hospital with my youngest and that night she was playing on our swingset, fell off and broke other arm. This is also the one who was in the NICU for 4 days after she was born because she would stop breathing when she would feed and also the one who had about 7 febrile seizures when she was younger.

My son broke his left arm last year at the babysitter's house. It happend 2 hours before he was supposed to throw the first pitch at the Reading Phillies game.

Last year, my youngest daughter was attacked by a rescue dog and spent the night in the hospital and come home the next day with 8 stitches in her foot and was not allowed to walk for 2 weeks.

Yes, the joys of parenthood. Again, thank you ladies for your comments. I really appreciate them. Have a lovely weekend!

Kids right?? I'm glad your son is OK. I've never thankfully had a real emergency with her, but how's this for a story. My daughter called me on her cell phone screaming Mom Mom Mom...I'm about having a heart attack not knowing what's wrong with her, and it turns out she called me to tell me ....are you ready for this?.... she got her favorite hockey player to autograph her jersey. I could have strangled her. I swear half my hair turned grey on the spot.

Oh my yes! When my son was in elementary school, he participated in the Christmas pageant. During one of the songs where he was on the TOP bleacher, he all of sudden got a strange look on his face, leaned on the kid next to him, then all of a sudden.....was gone! There was no wall behind him so he fell, all the way down.
Before I knew it I was out of my seat and LEPT on to the stage in one bound (the stage is a good 3 feet high) By the time I got to him, the boy next to him (his best bud thankfully) was leaning over him, tapping his face and he was coming too. His friend was sobbing, and I was shaking and sweating. His arm had caught on the metal and he had a huge gash is his arm. We got him to the hospital and he needed stitches in his arm, but he was ok. That was hands down the scariest few minutes of my life!

I have buried my fiancé and 2 best friend in 6 years. 2 of them a day apart 2 weeks after a miscarriage. Life is precious. I stalk my 2 yr old so much that I worry I'll steal all the joy from her life. I wake up gasping dreaming of awful stuff that can happen to her. I have to remind myself to enjoy life! Everyday is a gift! I'm glad your little boy is okay.

oh my word!!! thank God your son is okay!!!! Have a cup of hot tea!!!

My son got knocked with a baseball bat, with a batting helmet on, thank God and only had a small bump - it could've been so much worse!!

One of the boys on the team was messing with the dug out box and the wind whipped up and slammed it down on his arm - his daddy was all a panic - we didn't call 911 - but we did drive him to the ER where his bones were broken....

Wow! I am SO glad your boy is alright.

From the start my kid has kept me on my toes. He was born 2 months premature and was in the NICU that whole time. I wasn't allowed to sleep at the hospital so I had to drive an hour each way to see him every day. Leaving my teeny tiny precious baby every day in the hands of medical strangers helped me and gave me practice as he got older to learn to let go what isn't important and to treasure every moment w/him.

Yes it is part of life when you have kids that are in sports. We had this happen to our son at a football game. A few of the other team tackled him and he went down and out. By the time hubby got to him he was awake and talking. The coach had him stay out of the game for a few plays and continued play. He has also come home from an away game with a broken foot (little bone on side by little toe) and had to get it cast and wear it 2 months.

Welcome to parenthood and sports.

Wow, thank goodness he is going to be ok. And it was great that your husband was there.
I would have freaked out, thank goodness you were able to stay calm.

My nephew is and has always been a daredevil. He is also a natural athlete, he is even the Quarterback of his High School team..

This is a child that has been to the hospital so many times.. And every time, I hold my breath at what has happened to him. It is always some serious injury. He just is fearless and gives it his all..

Thank goodness our daughter is a rower.

When my son was born he was put in the NICU and I thought how do I get through? But, I did. In the end having all the medical professionals around me made me feel better. Then, when my daughter was 15 months old she a febrile seizure. I was nursing her when all of a sudden her eyes went back in her head and she went limp in my arms. Next she started foaming at the mouth. I didn't know what a febrile seizure was, never even heard of them before. I thought she was dying and when the paramedics arrived I was leaning over her chanting "please don't die". That was the moment I thought these kids are going to be the death of me. I think they need to give you an overview of this kind of stuff in parenting classes!!
So glad your boy is okay! I hope you never have to go through that again.

My son plays football too...not sure which is scarier - that or my younger one jumping horses. But...my little one had a concussion passing out in the lobby at school! So...the school lobby has been more dangerous for my kids than football or horses! LOL. Does your school do impact testing for football? If not, you may want to have it done somewhere. PM me if you want more info.
