When our son is old enough we'll be using the Dave Ramsey program with him. He has some really good ideas. Check out mytotalmoneymakeover.com

M., I don't know how old your child is but my son is 10. At this point we are trying to teach him about credit and not letting it get you in a hole. If your child is old enough and you are interested let me know and I can tell you what we are doing. He is learning a lot about borrowing and paying on time.

There is a great product called Moonjar Moneyboxes. It encourages a comversation about what is important to family and starts to teach even young kids that money is all about choicesand it does not mean much until you give it purpose. My kids have used the SHARE box to help bring water to a village in Africa. And at the same time they are understanding that when that choice is made it means that less goes into the SPEND BOX.
THe Moonjar company also has a box of questions about Money. THe whole system is great!

You could go to your local Edward Jones office and ask for any materials they might have on hand, or I'm sure they would be happy to order something for you. There's a great piggy bank that is divided into 4 sections: Save, Invest, Donate, and a special section for something they really want to buy themselves. There's also a coloring/activity book to go along with it.
Hope this helps!

P.S. The Money Savvy Pig! (After I read the next comment.) You can get it from your local Edward Jones office. :)

Hi M.,
I found this website for teaching kids the importance of setting goals and managing their money. They sell a product called the Money Savvy Pig that has slots for money to save, spend, donate and invest and instructions and goal setting stickers. It's for ages 4-10. I haven't gotten it yet, so I can't give any comments, but it sounds like a good product. I plan on buying it for my kids pretty soon 'cause the regular piggy bank isn't really doing a good job of teaching them about saving anymore. The website is:

They also have products for teenagers.

Good Luck!
