Hello moms!! Does anyone know a great place in the hot humid summer of houston that I can host a great summer party for my one year old. I am looking for an indoor place unlike chuck e cheese since she is only turning one. I would like something great for family and friends to gather as well as kids of all ages to keep cool for a summer birthday. If anyone has any suggestions please feel free!!

I vote for The Little Gym along with all of the other mothers that suggested it. I've had parties there for 2 of my kiddos and they had a blast! Have fun!

We had our twins bday party (we are Aug. birthdays so it is so hot) at the Children's Museum. It was great for kids of all ages. There is a party room where you can bring in your own food/drinks (or you can order it through the museum). They have "tour guides" that take all the kids through the museum. Obviously our 1 year olds didn't really do the museum but that way we could meet/greet all that did come and all the kids of various ages could enjoy the museum. It turned out great...highly recommend it! I can't remember the cost at the moment...sorry!

I am having my DD's second birthday party at "The Little Gym" this weekend. She takes classes there once a week and she loves it. They set up, provide decorations, provide 60 minutes of entertainment, 30 mins for party (90 mins total) and clean up.

Let me first say, a 1 yr. old doesn't need the stimulation that a chucke cheese provides. Basically a 1yr old party is for the parents, children this age are much better at home with family and friends . Just relax and have some people over inside your own home that's what we did and when the baby was tired , we put her down for a nap and were stil able to socialize with our guests.

Actually I recommend doing t at home for a first birthday. Normally it is easiest for you and your child that way. She would be able to enjoy chuck e cheese or any other place for that matter when she is a little older. Does she walk yet? If so, maybe McDonalds or a Jump house place like jump 2 it or Pump it up, or the Ruckus room. Honestly, for both of my son's first birthdays we had them at home. Easier to take to bath after cake and scheduale around naps. More relaxing and comfortable for her in home territory with lots of people. Remember at 1 they still can be over stimulated easy too.

Just things to consider, I hope it goes well and you get great pictures of her eating cake!

I had my little girl's 3 year old party at a place called Noah's Ark pool. It was really neat. You can rent it out for an hour at a time, provide your own food and watch your little ones play. We did Dominoes and sub sandwiches from Sams for the adults and it worked out great. The thing about this place is that there's water for the little ones but not too much where your uncomfortable about letting them play in it. It's very shallow along with slides for the older kids and a mushroom, whale, etc. that are constantly splashing out water. Here's the link if you want to check it out. I would highly recomend it seeing that we enjoyed it so much-Best of luck, it's her first so it should be special.

I am with the other Mom's who recommended good ol' home for the party. I know it's a huge day for you but one year olds get over stimulated with all the guests and attention with the cake, singing, presents. You might take the child somewhere and after an hour, they may have a melt down and then you are stuck.

If you have to go somewhere, I think the Mom's who recommended the restaurants with the sandboxes or play areas had good ideas but I would hold off on the Chuck e. Cheeses or any of those other entertainment establishments for a few more years.
Try to keep it to just relatives if you can. Simple is best at one. I had immediate family only for both my girls and have NO regrets.

I would suggest Gymboree. They have plenty of things the kids can climb on in a safe environment. And they also have an instructor that guides them thru some structured and non structured play. Since at that age their attention span is short you don't have to rent it for a long time. HTH

tish - what a joyous occasion to celebrate your daughters first birthday. But remember - she is still just one. all she wants is to be near you - she will not remember one thing about the party. I have aleways been advised - and found it to be true, that a childs party guest total should consist only of the total of the childs age. So - invite the relatives (ie: grandparents, etc) but i suggest keeping the small guests to a minimum. Usually - it might be other cousins or sometimes your best friend's child, etc.

then - I would just do a backyard party. if you dont already have a backyard wading pool - this is the time to do it! or - if you live in a neighborhood with a pool -just have it there - anything with water.

Save your money for when she is older and peer pressure makes her aware of the "options".

We did the little gym. It's a little expensive but lots of fun. Or if you are a member of the Zoo they have a real nice indoor place for parties in the childrens area of the zoo at a reasonable price.

Hi T. -- Lupe Tortilla is inside/outside and we had a great birthday party there -- they have a giant sandbox that kids love, and a great porch where the adults can have a meal and keep an eye on the kids in the sandbox.
