My son has been on an antibotic since Friday for bronchits. He also has been taking oral proventil and breathing treatments with albuteral. He is not having a fever now, but his chest really hurts when he coughs. Does anyone have any advise???

So What Happened?

Not all over yet. I ended taking him back. He has pink eye now. Also they think he has a sinus infection on top of everything else. I am sorry I forgot to mention his age. He is ten yrs.old. Doc said his chest is clear now. I will let you know and thanks for the advise.

My son (5) has taken the liquid albuterol before but not the breathing treatments. You didn't mention how old your son is and whether or not he can give you a lot of details about how he feels when he coughs. If his chest is really hurting and/or he is wheezing and/or can't seem to catch his breath I would definitely take him back to the doctor. You don't want anything settling into his chest and causing further problems such as pneumonia. The wife and daughter of my son's soccer coach have had whooping cough if you can believe it! Best thing is probably to contact your doctor and have him seen again to make sure the medicine is doing what it should be doing. Hope he feels better soon. C.

My son has been taking albuteral for asthma-like symptoms - coughing that keeps him up all night. I started using the humidifier in his room every night as well, and it has worked really well. He hasn't had a coughing fit in about a week now. Maybe using a humidifier would help your son. I know dry air can really irritate them, especially when their sick.

Good luck and I hope he feels better soon!

he may be very congested or he has coughed so much that his little chest hurts you may need to take him back to the doc to see if you can give him an expectrant to get all the nasty stuff out of his chest.
