Measuring Bigger in Pregnancy

I was different with every pregnancy (3). My son had extra amniotic fluid with him in there. So, he was my largest tummy of all with the kids. That could be what he is seeing. The dr did not realize I had the extra fluid until I delivered. Then she got drenched like someone threw a bucket of water on her!!!

Did you breast feed your first? If not, your uterus may never have gone back to it's original size to begin with. Plus, it's your second so your body remembers. I am pregnant with my 4th right now and have been shocked how much bigger I have gotten with each child though my oldest was my heaviest so far. Speaking of him, I didn't get my first u/s with him until 18 weeks and I was measuring 2 weeks bigger but we had been doing the basil temperature charting so I know down to about a 3 day span when we actually got pregnant and there wasn't ANYTHING going on 2 weeks earlier as we were visiting my in-laws at the time. LOL Anyhow, at my 37 week sono they told me he would probably be about 7 to 8 lbs. Instead he came at 38 weeks because he flipped and broke my water. At 2 weeks early he was 9 lbs 3 oz.

I don't put a lot of stock in drs measurements. With my first child they told me I was measuring weeks ahead and then at the last u/s they predicted her weight was going to be close to 9 pounds. I almost fell over. Well, when she was born she was exactly at 40 weeks and she weighed 6lbs 5 oz.

Now I'm pregnant with my 2nd (due anyday now) and they told me I was measuring 2 weeks behind and that she's already 7lbs and will probably be around 8 lbs at birth. I just don't even think of it.

It's not an exact science and people can mess up measurements. So I wouldn't worry about it unless they tell you it's something to be concerned about. :)

Oh yes, I'm 27 weeks along, and I'm measuring at 30. I've actually BEEN measuring at 30 weeks since the 24 week mark - my belly is huge! I have too much amniotic fluid with this one, and that's been the reason, although it seems to be leveling out now.
Although, independent of belly size, my uterus is measuring about 30 weeks well.
It doesn't mean anything, as long as the baby is measuring right on target.

sure. with your second, it usually grows a little faster . it could also be just how the baby is sitting in there. depending on it, you could be smaller or bigger.

I measured bigger w/ my second baby also, I had sonos every 4 weeks because my first daughter had urninary reflux so the wanted to moniter me more closely. So two weeks before my due date she induced me because I was having a "big" baby. She was 6 pd 3 oz......I even told the Dr. wheres the big baby at!

Every woman & actually pregnancy is different... when they measure you they are looking at an average growth of most mom, but your build or the way you are carring the baby can change the way you measure.

This is my 5th & it's the first that I measure where I'm suppose to be, but I also lost over 35# from July -Nov of last year before I found out I was expecting & I'm still weigh in less then I was when I lost my job of 12 yrs in July. I'm a lot more active this pregancy & my eating habits are a lot different this time also. He is also my most active little one - which sometime he suprises me with how active he is. I wouldn't worry about what you are measuring - it will even out at some point & even if it doesn't, it's just something else special about this one.

This is completely normal and very common. I myself measured about 3 weeksish higher than I was the whole time and my baby was born 3 days after my due date. I researched it at the time and learned it often happens. Every woman is different, and not everyone's bodies conform to the "correct fundal height".

Maybe not normal, but it was for me! They always measured me like 5 times just to make sure they weren't seeing things, and I was always measuring at least 2 wks ahead. However, they say the most accurate u/s is the one before 12 weeks. Since all babies develop at the same rate before that, so that is how they determine age/how far. After 12 weeks, they all develop different. They kept begging me to do a c-section since they made me do an u/s at 38wks to "guess" how big he was, and they gave me an 8-12lb estimate! That's a huge difference. The babies are just too big to see their skull or femur lines to measure a definite age (that is how they measure), so they just can't get the exact. He ended up being 9 lbs 9 oz, we knew he was going to be big, but he fit through my pelvis just fine (sort of lol); and at least he wasn't 12 lbs! So, maybe he is bigger, or maybe you have a lot of fluid, they should be able to measure the fluid though. Either way, shouldn't be anything concerning as long as baby and Mom are ok. I'm expecting my 3rd baby any day now & was also measuring large at the beginning. I was measuring a good 3-4 weeks ahead of time! As my pregnancy progressed, I started measuring more consistent with my actual dates. I didn't gain any weight until I was around 22 weeks, because I was also had a very bad case of morning sickness, but then between 22 & 38 weeks I put on about 22 pounds, and haven't gained anymore since. Weight gain doesn't really have much to do with your measurements, its basically where your uterus is located & how that is measuring. I wouldn't be concerned with it!
