Looking to Find Play Group for 3 Yr Old Son

Finally we have finished the move from Michigan and have found our new home in Henderson. Now my 3 yr old son is very sad and quiet bored. I have been so busy unpacking that he just plays by himself the whole time. This has been a little hard on him he has always had kids in the area to play with. The neighborhood we moved to doesn't have very many kids. I would realy like to focus on activites for him and I to do together or even some kind of sports for him to play. Any suggestions would be great. I am sure there are rec centers I just don't know where they are.I can't remember but I think someone mentioned a class called MOPS? What is this? Any suggestions would be great..
Thanks,
T.

Hi T.,
I know how you feel. We recently move here from St. Louis. I joined a mom's group called Mommyville. It is is southwest vegas. There is a website called meetup.com. This is where I had to go to sign up, but they should have groups on there for your area. I just met the group at the park one day. I would suggest finding one in your area. We do have a couple of moms who live in Henderson. If you look in the View (free neighborhood paper, there is an activities section and several moms groups have listings. It also helps you meet people too. I have never been to MOPS, but I have looked into joining. That is an activity that my mom's group does. They usually have an activity for you like a speaker and craft or something and arranged care for the kids (all at the same site).
Good luck and welcome to Vegas!

Hi T.,
The City of Henderson Parks & Recreation sends out a quarterly magazine called "Henderson Happenings" that lists all of the activities at the various rec centers in Henderson. I've attended several with my son (now 3 1/2 years old), and we've always enjoyed them. Most cost about $30 for six weeks (meeting once a week). It is a great way to meet other Moms with children the same age. Good luck!

My 3 year old son has no one to play with either. There are some kids in our neighborhod, but are too old. I am originally from Nebraska, and finding people to connect with out here can be tough. I tried a join a few mom groups, but they were quite abrasive and refused to let "working" moms join. I tried to find play dates, but if I wasn't a member of a particular church group or a "stay at home mom", my calls went unanswered. Where abouts are you? I am at Green Valley and Windmill (roughly).

Hey T.,
I think alot of us can relate to how you feel, b/c most people here are transplants. I live out in the Henderson area, and there are tons of moms looking to hook up and play. You will find that there are alot of parks and rec. centers with great activities for the kids too. Before we moved here, I had heard of MOPS, but just didn't have time to join. When we moved here, my friend decided to start up a MOPS group, so I looked into it. It is a GREAT group of moms who get together and play and share ideas about activities. There are a couple of MOPS groups in Henderson, our meets at South Hills Church at the corner of Horizon Ridge and Carnegie. We have our last meeting coming up soon on May 21st. We meet from 6:30p.m. to 8:30p.m. Since it is our last meeting before the summer break, we will be passing out a calendar of fun events for kids and families. If you are interested you could send me your e-mail, and I could get you all the info. Oh yeah, our last meeting is going to be a "Favorite Things" theme, kind of like Oprah's favorite things. It will be a white elephant gift exchange. Everyone will bring one of their favorite things (inexpensive) to exchange. Anyway, I would love for you to come and meet some great people. Take care!
