Hi Moms,

my time is running out. I'm looking for summer camps for my 12 year old son. Every year I let him go down South with my parents, but he only sit in the house & play video games all day.
This year I want him to do something like camp but I don't know of any. Not only do I want him to have fun but I need him to continue with the school setting.
Could you ladies help me out....

What can I do next?

Hi R.,
I had the same request back in January. Another mom told me about www.acacamps.org It's a national organization of accredited camps. You will find a camp suited to your specific needs. I was clueless until I went to a camp fair sponsored by this organization, now I'm overwhelmed with information. Good luck!

I'm not sure if you're looking for day camps or sleep-away camps, but I would recommend Frost Valley YMCA camp (sleep-away) in the Catskills. I went there as a child with my family during the year for weekends and for summer camp. They host four summer camp sessions - 1st one is one week, the others are two weeks each - and you can go for all of them, just one session, or some combination, depending on your schedule.

I'm now 27, and my husband and I were looking at the wesbite just a few days ago and thinking about going in late August (my siblings are much younger than I am - youngest is 14 - and my parents/sublings still go at the end of every summer for a week called "Family Camp").

There are a ton of outdoor activities, and I made some phenomenal friends. Some of my most favorite and treasured memories are from there! I just hope we are still living in this area when my boys (baby boy #1 is 13 months, and baby boy #2 due in 3 weeks) are big enough to enjoy a place like that.

Well, what kind of summer camp are you looking for and what's your budget? My daughter spent a couple summers at Camp Iroquois Springs in upstate NY. She's older now, and would rather stay home, but her two cousins go every year. It's a wonderful camp with impeccable facilities and an enriching program (no tv/video games!). It's also expensive like most sleep away camps, but SO worth it. I highly recommend it. The camp owners/directors are the nicest people ever. Your son will have a wonderful time. Let me know if you have any questions. Here is the website: http://www.iroquoissprings.com/
