We were planning on going to the beach this weekend down in Galveston area. Our 5 & 7 yo kids really want to go to a beach. We have never been to Galveston. Is it worth the drive? or do you have another suggestion? Thank you so much!

What can I do next?

Yes, absolutely! Many hotels to choose from. Moody Garden's is a must see I hear they also have a new midway strip. Crystal Beach also a good place. Such a convenient beach location right in our backyard without going too far south. On your way thru stop by Kemah;)

Galveston is a fun place to visit. That being said...if you were talking about the upcoming weekend (Labor Day)..since it is a holiday weekend, if you don't already have reservations, it's probably too late to get a reasonably priced hotel or condo and it will be very crowded. You're also likely to encounter even more crowds of people who are trying to get away from the hurricane in Louisiana. I wouldn't recommend you go there this weekend. As for somewhere else nearby, I agree with Mama2cade and suggest Fossil Rim. Also the Ft Worth Stockyards might be fun for the kids, along with the Ft Worth Zoo. Check out the Ft Worth Convention & Visitors Bureau website for other local attractions. I'm sure you will be able to find something fun to do.

There's a chance that some of Isaac's rain will head toward Galveston, so I wouldn't head that way.
There's plenty to do in/around DFW. Have you tried Fossil Rim? It's really neat for kiddos.

With the holiday weekend, I would skip Galveston, although I love it. Instead I would head to Glenrose like someone else mentioned. Fossil Rim is great, and the State Park is across the street and is wonderful! There are dinosaur tracks in the river beds, and hiking is fabulous, even for little ones.

Have a great weekend!
