Looking for a Midwife Referral

I am a certified nurse midwife that works in a hospital setting. I actually don't work with private patients, but in the public hospital, Parkland, in downtown Dallas, but I have many friends who are CNM's who work in the private sector and/or who have birthing centers. There is a really good practice that is associated with Baylor hospital. I also know of a wonderful midwife with a birth center, but the birth center is in Allen. Let me know what type of birth experience you are looking for and I can point you in the right direction.

I went to see Susan Akins at Womens Health Alliance at Baylor Medical Center. She is a certified midwife. I delivered at Baylor Medical Center in January 2005. I really liked Susan and do not hesitate in recommending her. I also live in Lake Highlands in Dallas so Baylor is handy for visits.

Hi there, I delivered my second child with a midwife in a hospital in Connecticut. When I was pregnant with my third and was living in Dallas, I learned that is almost unheard of. The concept is not widely accepted here. There is a practice of OB/GYNs with a midwife on staff at Baylor (downtown) Hospital. I did not use them since I live too far north.

Also, I have friend who delivered at a birthing center near Lovers lane...she did not have a good experience.

If you want a hospital midwife, Susan Aikens works at Downtown Baylor. If you want a birth center midwife, there are many to choose from. Molly Germash at Family Birth Services in Grand Prairie, Bonnie Kitchen and Gail Johnson at Eden Song Maternity in Hurst, the midwives at Family Centered Maternity Care in Garland, Dinah Warrench at Lovers Lane Birth Center in Dallas, or Becky Burpo at Allen Birthing Center. I'd avoid the Birth and Women's Center on Swiss at all costs. Cherie there is not someone I'd recommend at all.

I'm not sure your reasons for not wanting a homebirth. Obviously the exact same emergency equipment, etc. is the same whether at a birth center (which is really just someone else's house) or your own home. And the midwives will clean up everything whether it's their place or yours! If you ever want to chat about homebirth or midwifery care, feel free to let me know. I had the most awesome midwife. Her name is Susan Akins. She is with Women's health alliance and has offices at both Baylor Dallas or in mesquite but she delivers at baylor. She did everything she could to help me have a natural birth and allowed me to be in control. My family, who were totally against a midwife, came out of the experience totally loving her. She's the best.
