Hi Moms,
I am looking for a good pumpkin patch to take my 2 year old and his friends to. I've been disappointed with the ones in Concord and Walnut Creek that charge $20 for the same pumpkins they have in the grocery store. Are there any in the area that actually grow the pumpkins on site and charge a reasonable price? A fun atmosphere is definitely a plus. I live in Concord and am willing to drive up to 40 minutes. Thanks!
Clayton Valley is pretty cool if you want to stay local, but Smith Family in Brentwood is even better.
Have you gone to Clayton Valley Farms pumpkin patch? It's a lot of fun. They have it all decorated, there are fun things to do like, ride the train, play in the maze, etc.
Magini farms on Pleasant Hill Road also has a miniature pumpkin farm with a corn field maze, tractor train, etc. It's more simple than Clayton Valley, but just as fun for the little ones.
Both of my girls have enjoyed both.
As others have said, the clayton valley pumpkin farm is great. Yes the pumpkins are a little expensive, but you're also paying for the experience: farm animals, hay maze, play area, all in a beautiful location. And talk about photo op! My kids are 16, 13 and 10 now so we no longer make the trek out there, but I have many fond memories (and photos) from that place and time in our lives. Have fun :)
Go to Halfmoon Bay pumpkin patch. They have shows and a pumpking contest every year. They would love it.

Another great one is the Smith Family Farms in Brentwood. They have a corn maze, a little hay maze for kids, petting animals, a hoe down, hay ride etc. http://www.smithfamilyfarm.com/index.html
The Clayton Valley Pumpkin Farm has been a huge hit with my daughter, they have a tot area with all sorts of play things- pools of lima beans, hay mazes, a train, etc. Last year when my daughter was two, she probably went once a week and LOVED it...
nope, they all charge an arm and leg. we normally pick our pumpkins out at trader joes and play at the pumpkin patch in clayton, only buying mini gourds or something small. the patch is awesome!
My kids are much older now so I haven't been to any of these reacently, but the Moms in the Gymboree classes that I teach always mention the Clayton Valley Pumpkin Patch. I'm not sure if that's different than the Concord one that you refer to but you could try that.

This was a school field trip and the pumpkins were included as part of the package so I don't know how much they charge. I *can* say that our school's entire First Grade thoroughly enjoyed themselves on the tour and in the play area.
