Looking for a Good OB/GYN - Altamonte Springs,FL

This is how most practices run when there is more then 1 doctor. I have on doctor in the office that I see twice a year but when I was pregnant I saw a different doctor every appt that way I had a chance to develop a relationship w/ each doctor so that on the day of delivery I wouldn't have a complete stranger. If you don't like it find another OB office that only has one doctor call your insurance and find out who they will accept. They aren't being rude they are following their policy they aren't going to change it for just you if there aren't any other high risk obs in your area I suggest you suck it up and deal with the office you are at right now. I don't know if I was high risk how safe I would feel with a small practice with one doctor I'd rather a bigger practice at a hospital with everything right there in the office. My first son I had was at a small practice (just him) and I had to go to the hospital for everything ultrasounds, several times for blood work and it was a pain in the butt. The second pregnancy I went to a slightly larger practice at a hospital they did all the lab work and any ultrasounds needed right there much more convenient. And I do think its a little rude of you to expect them to change their policy just for you..

I have to disagree with the other ladies if you are more comfortable with one doctor then you should be able to stay with them throughout the entire pregnancy regardless of how big the practice is. However you should understand that most likely you will be stuck with whoever is on duty when you go into labor. My practice has 10-12 doctors but because I was very high-risk and knowing I would have a c/s I was able to stick with the same doctor throughout and she even came to do my emergency c/s late at night. I'm pretty sure she was not the oncall doctor for my practice that night. You should find a new practice in my opinion. One that will treat you better. Remember you are paying them so they work for you. Check your insurance company to see what doctors will take your insurance and then google them and see what pops up.

I had a practice like that with my first baby. It certainly sounds convenient for the doctors, but as a patient, I'm not really a fan!

Mommapedia is a good resource for local recommendations. When I needed an OB last year, I got great tips. I especially valued the opinion of nurses who responded. You might want to repost this question and check off the " Is this question specific to a local area? " button so only people from your area will see it and answer.

Another thing that really helped me was to choose which hospital I wanted to deliver at, and look on my insurance list. That narrowed things down a bit. I posted the names of the remaining practices and doctors, and got some local feedback on them. I was very happy with the doctor I ended up with that way.

I dont know what area you are in or how far you are willing to travel. I go to Dr. Steven Pillow in Mt Dora. He is AWESOME!!!! He is in practice by himself. He delivered my first 2 babies & will deliver my 3rd in April.
I have also heard great things about Dr. Jon Sweet in Altamonte. I dont know how big his practice is.

That is pretty much the norm. Mine has two doctors I have to see each them a couple of times during the pregnancy. I saw my main one about 80% of the time. He delivered my daughter as well. Ob is the most demanding speciality. Imagine being on call 24/7 365 a year. That is pretty much what life is like for a solo practice ob/gyn. And that is a big factor in why it is so rare to get a solo practice one anymore. I have always found that If i just put myself in the other person's shoes for a minute I can see how it goes.
Did you move to this practice only after getting pregnant? I had my doc as my gyn before we started trying last time and I saw him my first 2 visits. But when i hit a major complication at 28 weeks I was glad to have already seen the on call doc a few times. Remember they have minutes if something goes south to get a laboring mom in the or. Just imagine how stressful that must for any person. Having a partner lets them get in my guy's case a week off from that feeling
