Late Period and Pregnancy Tests Show Negative

I am 9 days late today. I am very regular, so I have taken 4 pregnancy tests thus far: 1st at 1 day late, 2nd at 3 days, 3rd at 7 days and 4th today at 9 days late and all read negative. I am stressed because I want to know if I am pregnant or not. If not, why haven't I gotten my period?! I have placed a call into my doctor's office already and am waiting for their response. My background, lost my first child who was stillborn in 2006. Had a healthy baby girl in 2007 (now 2!) then in 2008 had a heart defect which was detected after I suffered a stroke. Now my heart defect is fixed and was given the OK in February to try and conceive. My husband and I decided recently we wanted another baby. What my next pregnancy entails will be very different from the others, I will have to see a perintologist and will most likely have to have daily injections of pre-clotting meds, since I had a stillborn and a stroke. Anyone have any insight of why I would be this late and tests showing neagtive? Thanks!

AF can be late for about a million different reasons it seems...
Some are:
- anovulatory cycle
- late ovulation
- recent stress in life
or a great article is 10 reasons your period could be late:

best of luck TTC!

Hi S.,

I was trying to have a baby for a couple of years, and had a miscarriage within that time. I found out that I ovulate very late in my cycle, day 30 or so, with a cycle length of 30-31 days. I am 6 months pregnant now, but since I ovulated so late it took a while to get a positive pregnancy test. In fact, I was about to start med. to jump start my late period so that I could start Clomid; I was one day away from it, and had a negative pregnancy test from the Doctor's lab, believe it or not, when I decided to take one more early detection test which said I was pregnant.

My doctor did not subscribe to the belief that late ovulation was a symptom of anything, but there are other doctors who believe that it's connected to low progesterone production, which can also lead to miscarriage. Since I had a miscarriage that also had a late conception date (by ultrasound dating), I decided on my own to use progesterone cream through about 16-18 weeks pregnant. There's no way to tell for sure that it helped me, but I believe it did and it can't hurt. You just want to tell your doctor (it was hard for me to tell her since she didn't think it played a role), and when you go off of it, go off slowly. Lots of doctors do prescribe it, but they also are testing progesterone levels. I had one test of my progesterone, to see if I'd ovulated, and it was at borderline low, which was low enough for me to think it could be helped by supplementing. I had other signs of low progesterone in my life as well.

anyway best wishes and I hope you have some good news soon!

Get your thyroid checked, it is a common culprit of menstrual issues.

Well good luck to you! I've know a few people who have taken at home pregnancy test and then the doctor then a few months later finally have the pregnancy confirmed.

So as anxious as you are - hopefully your doctor will get back to you and help figure things out.

Good luck regardless.

It is entirely possible you are pregnant, but the hormone the tests detects (hcg) is not showing up in your urine. Request a blood test, which your doc will probably suggest anyway.

Good luck!

Most women have at least one anovulatory cycle each year and this time could be one. Some people have more, especially if you body has been under a lot of stress or you yourself have felt stressed. I would say test again in a week and if still no period I would say you just didn't ovulate this time around. Now it doesn't hurt to talk with the doctor but...this is just my guess.
