Kristalose Reviews

I was just recently diagnosed with IBS+C. My dr put me on Kristalose (aka Lactulose). I take one packet every night at bedtime with 4 oz water. I am just wondering if anyone has ever used this, and what your experience with it was. The pharmacist told me it was a pretty new drug, so I havent been able to find much information about it on the internet. Also, wondering if anyone out there with IBS could give me some suggestions on how to ease symptoms.

What can I do next?

I have a daughter that has been useing Lactalose for 2 years now due to a different problem. We have not had any problems with it. You may want to read up on food allergies. IBS is one illness that is commonly misdiagnosed - it usually is the result of some type of food allergy. The most common culprits are wheat, gluten, milk, and/or casein.

Hi, A.,

Sorry to hear what you're going through!

Just wanting to make sure, did the doctor go through *complete* dairy elimination with you first to make sure you're not allergic to dairy, or have lactose intolerance? It seems odd to me that you would have IBS *and* Celiac Disease (is that right?).

Try it yourself and see if a completely dairy-free diet helps. That means no whey in processed goods, no anything. It takes some label reading, but you're probably getting used to that with your gluten issue.

Good luck!

L.

I have taken it, it helped alot. Ummm, time in the bathroom was "a little more pleasent" than before, if you know what I mean. At first I didn't notice a difference. I also have IBS, I've used Bentyl for the spasms. Its an older drug, and it works pretty good. As far as relieving some symptoms, try a food elimination diet. I did that and I am perfectly happy. In fact I rarely have to go back to see my GI doctor...who didn't have the best bedside manner either. But anyways, I grabbed a Colon Cleanser and I had researched out TONS of them and found one at Akins called First Colon Cleanse. (Its in a purple and yellow box and has a sun on it). Cleanses are good for your body if done properly. Anyways, I changed from sodas to all water and juices (diluted) and pulled out dairy. We were already Lactose free but I removed cheeses and stuff. After a few weeks I started eliminating Gluten. And girl am I the happiest person ever now. My cramps have gone away and I have stopped with the Lactulose I still keep it and Bentyl around for just in case purposes. I have also gone vegetarian (for other reasons too) but will simple diet changes and an occasional cleanse, I'm good. Research out what you want to do, cause what worked for me may not work for you, but its worth the try. There are a few websites that cater to IBS cooking... Google recipes for IBS or gluten-free cooking. My fav website is 101cookbooks.com. and glutenfreegoddess.blogspot.com

Good luck, if you need anything else, don't hesitate to ask!!!

Hi A.,

My daughter was on lactulose from about 4 months till just over a year. She has an anteriour(sp) anes(SP). Pretty much her tubing is too long causing additonal strain when she need to go potty and to get constipated. lactulose is an undigestible sugar which means you will want to limit your sugar intake or you will see a greater effact from the drug. It worked really well for my daughter she is now off the medication and thankfully without any surgry to correct the issue. I can tell you when she had anything with suger in it while on lactulose she would "explode" completly over her diaper and on her cloths and sometimes out of those as well. We quickly learned we needed to limit the sugar she intakes. We still have the problem if she eats too much sugar she "explodes" in her clothes she is now 4 and we just don't give her much sugar. :) I hope this helps out some. :)

i feel sorry for you i have been dealing with this for about 19 years. I have just learned to deal with it. I have taken all different types of meds and the only one that really helps me is Miralax. As long as I take if everyday I am for the most part better. I still have certain days out of the month that are bad. Stress really makes it worse. I admit some days I do not even take it all cause i get so tired of taking it. But i can really tell a difference when I do. I dont drink any types of sodas, i drink water, orange juice and milk. Now when i was little I could not drink milk but now I dont have a problem with it. Good luck with it let me know who the meds work I may need to try them.
