Hi! I was wondering if anyone has had any experience with either the Fisher Price Kids Tough digital camera or the Vtech Kidizoom digital camera and what one is better? My daughters are 4 & 5 soon to be 5 & 6 in 3 months and I wanted to get them a digital camera they can use on their own & take their own pics as they always ask to take some with ours. Also their grandfather wanted to get them their first MP3 player and was wondering if anyone had any advice on them? What would be good ones for their ages? I seen the FP3 player, but really don't understand what that is. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

I am a portrait photographer, so my 4 year old son has wanted to take pictures along side of me for a long time. His great grandmother bought him the Fisher Price camera and we have been happy with it. I think it might be too easy for your girls. I would really suggest investing in an inexpensive "real" digital camera. They are going to be old enough to know how to take care of it. The Fisher Price camera does not have enough megapixels to print the pictures, the quality is pretty bad. But he just likes snapping away and doesn't really care about the finished product as of now. My suggestion would be to get a Canon Powershot or similar camera. They are about $115 and the Fisher Price is about 70. It might be worth the investment. If I can help, please feel free to email me directly. Good luck.

Hi J.,

I actually got my daughter the FP3 player last year and I also got the base (speakers). Although she was a bit young for it, I really liked the durability (of course she dropped it right away!) ... a word of caution, though: it takes a bit of setup and since it's not mp3 or mp4 (like iPod), you have to have the actual CD's to get the music on there.

I also got the kid tough digital camera a month ago for my daughter's 3rd birthday and I ended up returning it. I learned from the fp3 player that you need to open this stuff up and test it. I did so and found that the picture quality would have made the pictures not even printable (I even transferred to computer thinking it was maybe just the display on the camera). I don't know about the vTech but if you do get it, be sure to let us all!

Good luck and happy shopping!

My daughter got the FP Kid Tough camera for her 4th birthday. She loves using it and it provides the opportunity for her to have her own camera. It is very durable, but the photo quality is poor. The quality doesn't bother her at all. We also have the FP3 player. It is easy for my 4 year old to use. The only problem is that it does not play MP3 files. It converts music to the FP3 format.

My husband and I took the kids to Toysrus the other night to let them look around and get ideas for "SANTA" and we came across the VTech Kidizoom camera ! Do not buy it !! WE tested it at the store trying to take pictures of the kids and all that turns out is a white glare. We could not find the option to turn the flash off . You might as well buy a fake camera for the quality .

Hi J. -

I got my then 2-1/2 year old son the Fisher Price Kids digital camera for Christmas last year. It is very easy to use & he absolutely loves it. Drops it on the ground & nothing happens. You can upload the pictures to your computer. They are actually pretty good quality pictures. I'm sure your daughters will enjoy it.
