Hi. Is there anyone that is a member at Kempsville Recreation center in VA Beach? Plan to check them out but concerned about them watching my lil' one while I am working out. Do they watch lil' ones???? Don't know yet since I have not been there yet to scope things out. I am very cautious of who watches my child. I only trust my husband, mother, inlaws, and sister in law. These are the only people who watch my child but they work during the day. I am a stay at home mom. Yes,you can say I am very overprotective on who watches him. But these days you kinda have to with all those "crazy" people out there. Has anyone had any experiences with dropping their child or children off while you attend any classes? Are they clean? Do they really watch your child or are they occupied with doing something else than watching the children? If you had any negative experiences as well as positive I would like to hear them. Thanks in advance.

What can I do next?

I would suggest speaking with the staff. I am almost sure they expect small children to be supervised. On another note, I would not leave my children in the receration room alone... they are ages 5,8,10.

Have you tried the YMCA off of Indian River? The staff is very nice and you can look in at your little one anytime as they have a viewing window in the hall of the work out center. They are wide open. I am a member there- and included is all of Hampton Roads Y's so if I want to go to the one at Hilltop, Suffolk, Chesapeake, etc... I can. I am looking for a work out partner (as a side note). Oh they also have kids classes like Tumble bugs- the kids can attend a motor skills enrichment class while you work out yourself. The classes for the kids also have viewing windows.

I thought that the Kempsville Rec did not have a babysitting program. I know they have day care and pre-school. The YMCA (on Indian River) and the JCC do watch your children while you are working out.

I assist teaching a class at the rec center once a week (karate class) and have always had a positive impression of the place. The kids left in our care are older than your son (6 and up) and only a few parents hang around the whole time. In the summer our class is in the same room after summer camp. They move all the tables and mop the floor for us. The wall art that remains is very cute. The staff and patrons are all friendly people, however, I don't think there is anything wrong with being overly cautious. FYI- all VA Beach rec employees have to go through a criminal check which includes looking for a pedophile record. I don't recall there being a specific child-care program for parent working-out, but the activities and classes are great.

I am member of the KRC and our son started in the Pre-K buddies program in September. To date, I have nothing negative to say. The staff...even the ones who don't have him class are so positive and friendly. My son loves it there and has started to protest when I pick him up. I don't think they have sitter service while you workout.
