Just FEEL Pregnant but Starting Bleeding

I have a very regular 28 day cycle and have never been late before, sometimes a day or two early but NEVER late. This cycle my expected ovulation date was March 31 and I was supposed to start my period on April 12th. I was planning on taking a pregnancy test today (April 15, 4 days late) but this morning I started bleeding. It's not brown, it's red :( However, I still don't have any of my normal pms symptoms nor is the bleeding like a 'normal' period for me. It's much lighter and usually I have several clots the first two days of my period and this is more-so resembling the very last day of my period.

The thing is, is that even before I missed my period I just KNEW this was the month. I didn't want to admit it and I kept trying to rationalize with myself to avoid disappointment but I couldn't even convince MYSELF I wasn't pregnant. I avoided taking a pregnancy test because I was terrified of getting a negative and wanted to wait to be sure my hormone levels were high enough etc etc. So of course, the big day that I'm going to take the test and I start bleeding.
But I don't really feel disappointed...I still feel like I'm pregnant, I still just have that gut feeling or instinct or whatever and am more so curious as to whether or not I should still take a pregnancy test?

If there's not a chance of me getting a positive result then there's not a chance of me taking one, but is there anyway I could be pregnant and just be having bleeding (not a period, but common bleeding in early pregnancy) and still get a positive test result?

Also, should I still take a test now or should I wait until next month to see if my next period comes?

EDIT: In response to some of the answers..I don't think it's implantation bleeding because I think that should have happened before the late period or the first day or two I was late, but I'm not positive. Plus the blood is red, not brown or pinkish and everything I've read says "Brown=good red=BAD"
Also, I don't want to take a test unless I know it's positive is hard to explain, it's kinda like if my child were to go missing, no matter how long we didn't have answers I'd always have hope that my child would be found, and found alive...and then if the body were found it's final. If the test comes back negative it's like taking away the last tiny bit of hope and since this is the first time I've even ever thought I was pregnant, let alone actually missed my period, it's REALLY exciting. Basically, I'm just terrified of what it'll say...
but it's true, we can always keep trying and I just need to suck it up and take one. I plan on getting a box of digital tests and testing tomorrow morning, and just to be sure again in a couple of days.

Thanks so much for all of the responses! And the courage to quit avoiding the inevitable! Will definitely let ya'll know what happens!

So What Happened?

Thanks so much for all of the quick and helpful responses! The bleeding got heavier and heavier and the cramping got muuuuch worse. Decided we're going to go to the Dr on Monday to determine if it was a miscarriage or just a late period to help track better and be sure there's not an infection and such.

Really excited to keep on trying and hopeful for next month!

Yes, there is a chance. However, I will warn you, I had a very early miscarriage - a positive home test on the day my period was due, but then low HCG levels that never rose and I started bleeding shortly afterward. Even if you are pregnant, the blood could mean a problem. Good luck. I hope you get the results you want. I might wait a day or two to take the test, so if it is positive you can feel more confident after bleeding. I wouldn't wait a whole month as you would go crazy wondering.

It could be implantation bleeding. If it were me, I'd take the test. If it comes out negative, and you're still convinced, wait a few day and take another. I'd go for one of the really sensitive ones that claim to be able to tell you whether or not you're pregnant before you even miss your period, but if money is an issue, it doesn't need to be an expensive one.

Best wishes :)

Just take the test. It's the only thing that will put your mind at ease.

Take the pregnancy test. Light bleeding can occur with pregnancy. Best wishes. R., midwife mom of 3

I'm not a doctor, but if you truly think you're pregnant, and you're bleeding as if it were a period, it may be an early miscarriage. I'm currently pregnant (9 weeks), and have had some spotting, but it was dark brown (old blood), which is supposedly normal. I'm curious why you won't take a test unless you know it'll be positive? At least you would be put at ease a little. Those things are so accurate nowadays that doctors don't always do a blood test to confirm.

Your bleeding could be implantation bleeding. i had it with my first and it was a substantial amount, enough for me to think it was a regular period. Take the test, if it's negative it could still be early (for some people they don't have enough of the hormone in them for quite a while) i was able to take a test like 2 weeks before my period because i KNEW march 29 was the day. And it was :). So good luck and take the test! No one wants to be wondering for that long.

PS if you're actively trying you should get on prenatal vitamins now :)

I agree with everyone else. Take the test and put your mind at ease. If not this month then maybe the next. If not then think of all the fun you will get to continue to have trying. Sex is so much more fun when you are trying (I think any how). If it is positive your life is going to change big time and hopefully you will have 40 weeks to adjust to that change.

Best of luck, but you won't know until you do.

My husband and I were trying in July, I wasn't sure if I was feeling pregnant or I was just wanting it so bad I was thinking to much into it. I got what I thought was my period and was so bummed that I wasn't pregnant. A week or so later I was feeling pregnant still so I took a test and it was POSITIVE!!!! I'm now 39wks pregnant with my 2nd :) Take the test! I got a period type thing every month for the 1st 2 trimesters of my pregnancy. Good Luck
