Is There Someone Special That You're Missing This Christmas?

I'm thinking a lot this year about my stepfather who passed 6 years ago about a week before Christmas. We still miss him so much. You know what I mean? We're healthy about it and it's not debilitating us or having a giant impact on the holidays. But he was SO close with my son, now almost 9, and I can't help but think about how he would have loved to see him at this age....and the fun they would have had together....so....

Is there someone you are really missing, especially at this family-focused time of year?
Maybe a rift that should have been mended a long time ago?
Maybe someone who as passed on?
Maybe someone you're not "speaking to" but should be?
Care to share?

What can I do next?

I am missing my biological brother from time to time.. he died in '04 at the age of 41 from an enlarged heart.. Sadly, he began drinking since the age of about 8 years.. he was so funny, artistic and creative.. When I think of all that potential lost.. that is what really makes me sad.. knowing it didn't need to be this way.... His birthday happens to be today... Happy Birthday Matthew!!

My Mom died Sunday, we buried her yesterday. She was very sick with heart failure and I had been homebound with her for almost 8 months. She is spending the holidays with her baby daughter who was stillborn in 1952, my brother who died in March of 1995 and her parents and siblings who passed years ago. But my children and myself will miss her very much.

Today is my sister's birthday she would have been 52. She passed away 2 yrs ago 2 months shy of her 50th birthday of kidney cancer.
This Christmas is exceptionally hard! I lost my husband 3 months ago.
I am trying. I keep a good bluff going at work and around most people. But dang it I really do not want to do any of it. I have done pitiful at buying gifts. I have gotten the kids a few things but definitely not what they are used to.
I am so ready for a good year!! I am not sure how much longer I can keep the faking till I make it, if the make it doesn't get here quick!!! No I will keep going, it just sucks!!
Thanks alot!! Here I am at work trying to hide the tears!!! Just kidding. Thanks for letting me vent!!
Blessings

I lost my mom to a drunk driver in December, 14 years ago. I miss her all the time. My dad died this August, so this will be our first Christmas without either of my parents. It is a time of remembrance, along with joy.

Reading all of these posts makes me so sad, but sometimes it's helpful to share.

My father-in-law died about a month ago, and we all miss him.

Also, it seems a bit wrong to mention this, but the same week that FIL died, our 18 year old dog died, and she was my dog. I miss her so much this time of year. She was always right by my side, and I keep looking for her. We have another dog that I love, but I sure miss my old girl.

I also miss my dad. He died in January 7 years ago. It was very sudden. He just went to sleep and never woke up, so I didn't get to say good-bye. I think about him every day.

We are a very Christmas-y family, so joy is all around, but I have moments of wishing those we've lost could be here with us.

I'm hoping all of those experiencing loss and sadness find peace and joy this holiday season.

Both of my parents. My Mom would be so excited to see all her great-grandkids (all born after she died). My Dad was very close to my daughter, and her son carries his name. My husband's parents are both gone too, and I find it pretty sad that my 10 year old doesn't have any grandparents at all to spoil him on Christmas.

Oh, this made me sad and I know that was not your intent.

I miss my Granny. She was great, she loved this time of year, she made us all feel special, she would have loved to meet my daughter who was born after she passed.

I miss my dog who passed this summer. She was always willing to wear a Christmas hat and pose with the kids.

I miss my aunt who passed away a year ago at a very young age.

I miss my Pawpaw and and my husbands Pawpaw.

I miss my Mawmaw who though still with us physically has mostly left us mentally.

I am however thankful and grateful for the wonderful friends and family that I do have left here and that the O. person that I did not speak to for over a year well we have been slowly and tentatively working on mending bridges as I have missed her, but also still hurt too.

The 2000-2010 decade was very rough for my family. We are a very close family and lost:

my grandma
2 uncles
my grandma's brother and SIL
my little cousin
several close family members, ranging in age from 5-36 yrs old

There is also a big rift between my mom, 3 of her sisters, and my uncle's family due to some choices O. of his daughters has made in her life and my mom and aunts' refusal to condone her behaviors. It makes me sick that they are not doing anything to reconcile O. another, especially since my uncle's wife has Parkinson's disease, which my grandpa was afflicted with, and I know that my uncle could use all the help he can with her so that she doesn't have to move to a nursing home.

My mom! She's alive, we're on good terms, but her home is not "conducive" to us all staying there, and we've told her she will have a paid for plane ticket here anytime she wants.....but she's got issues that make it difficult for her to leave (too many damn animals--who will feed them? not enough vacation days, anxiety disorder, etc, etc). It makes me sad. She should be here with us so she can get loved on, and so she can play with the boys. But, we sent her presents by mail and we will skype her on Christmas day.

I'm totally missing my grandparents, my grandma died in 2001 at 65, from C.O.P.D. My grandpa died in 2007 at 86, from natural causes. I just had my first child in April and I would have loved for his great grandparents to have met him. I've been a little depressed about it lately, especially with the holiday season upon us. It just makes me reminisce how Christmas was with them around:(

My grandfather who passed away the Wednesday after Easter. He would have been 93 this November. His birthday was the day after my daughter's so they always shared their birthday cake. It was her wish for his name to still be on the cake this year and it was.

Good question, Denise. Wishing you peace and healing this holiday season.

Oh so many, including special pets that are no longer here...My stepfather passed away in May this year so that will be a big hole in my heart. I still put up the last Christmas card I received from my granma who passed away in 1990, my younger brother was lost to a homicide right before Thanksgiving 1999, he was planning on spending the New Millenium Year with us when we were living on Catalina Island, CA that O. is/was devastating.

On the bright side my children who are spread out over the country are all healthy & enjoying the holidays with their 'other' families & tho' I will miss them we will be in touch & my heart is warm knowing they are with loved ones.

My mom is living close by but 7 hrs. by car & finances won't allow me to go & pick her up...she won't be having a great holiday...I wish for a Christmas miracle to have her here...

Best of Joy to you & yours!

Thanks for asking...I really miss my paternal grandmother, who was like a second mother to me. She passed away the year I was married, so she never got to meet my daughter...all she wanted was for me to have a baby. At O. point, even though she was Italian and very Catholic, she told me it would be ok for me to have a child without being married (at this point I was 25 and way too busy dating and being single in the big city). But that always made me laugh!

My daughter reminds me so much of her: strong-willed, quick-witted, and knows her way around the kitchen...So while I miss her terribly, I feel she is near in a way. My daughter refers to her in converstion, though they never met, i.e. "That is so like Alvera," or "What would Alvera think about that?"
Some people might find that odd, but I find it immensely comforting...

What a great question for many of us to release. My sister passed away 2 yrs. ago at a young age. She was not only my sister, but truly a best friend. I also just moved to PA from TX and I miss all my family and I have a 14yr. old daughter that I will not be sharing for the first time part of Christmas day. The Holidays sure do make it tougher on all of us that have loved ones away. Try to keep your heads up as those around us will need our strength to have a wonderful day!
