Help! My husband got a black Sharpie stain on his khaki shorts. Is there any way to successfully get it out, or is it truely a permanent stain? Thanks for any suggestions that you have tried that may have worked.

Hairspray will take out ink-stains. Put an old rag or paper towel between the two sides so it will absorb the ink. It may take the whole can, just spray and dab over and over... I have found hairspray to do the job.
Good Luck, Teresa

I have successfully removed sharpie stain from my husbands white labcoats with oxyclean powder. You have to use it full strength and may have to do it several times before all comes out. Just keep rinsing and then treating until it is gone!!

My daughter got her hands on a sharpie about 6 months ago. I got some great advice then. Awesome is a cleaning product that is sold at dollar gerneral it took the sharpie off of my wall, my carpet, my daughter furniture, and my daughter's bedding. It's cheap and worked for me!

I have tried Sol=u-mel and have never had the luck of getting ink, chocolate, and tomato stains out as others have. The product Awesome at Dollar General is a good product, as well as Mary Kay's eye makeup remover. Another good stain remover is TKO organge oil. You can find at Wells Brothers, but do not recommend for synthetic fabrics.

Good luck.

Hi N.,

I agree with the poster that said to use Sol-u-mel. That is the best stuff ever. Last Christmas I was at my parents house in an all white sweatshirt and I was eating blueberry pancakes and one burst onto my sweatshirt. Of course I was furious and my dad said that I might as well through the shirt away. Well I had used Sol-u-mel on a few other things, but never like this. I had to soak the spots and wash the shirt 3 times, but the stains came out. I love this stuff. I use it on everything, including sheets, towels, and baby food stains. Email me if you are interested and I can send you a sample to try.

Try spraying hairspray on it and washing it in the washer as usual. That is how I get rid of pen stains.

Try undiluted ammonia. That's what my grandmother uses on everything, and it works! You may have to soak it in an ammonia/water solution, but it should do the trick.

nail polish remover works to remove it from skin, so maybe that would work on clothes

I am not sure if it works on sharpies but hair spray takes out ink so you might give it a try.

My husband and I sell a product we call K Cleanit Towels which get out almost anything. My husband had an almost impossible stain on a shirt and we wrapped the towel into the shirt and let it soak, washed it, and it came right out. These towels are also great for household use: getting scum and mildew stains off of showers walls, cleaning toilets, detailing cars, carpet stains, and the list goes on and on. have you tried soaking it in ERA detergent? ERA has something in it to help break down stains. Worth a try. Get the area a little wet then put the ERA on thick and let it soak. good luck.

spray with cheap hairspray, rub and wash. repeat this cycle as many times as neccesary, but don't dry until the stain is gone. it takes a while but it will work. note: the cheaper the hairspray, the better it works!

There is a product called Sol-U-Mel made by a company called Melaleuca. It's a wellness company. You can find them at www.melaleuca.com. All of their products are natural and the Sol-U-Mel is a tea tree oil based product that has so many household uses. I've not used it to get Sharpie stains out of clothes but had a friend who used it to get marker stains out of her rug. Could be worth a shot.

I know this may sound weird if you have never heard it before, but Mary Kay eye make-up remover will remove sharpie stains on almost everything.
