My poor baby is super cranky bitting his hand and shoving my hand in his mouth. He is only 4 months though and i dont see any teeth. Is there anything a could do to ease his discomfort? I gave him tylenol and rubbed the infant oragel, but i dont want to have to drug him up if i dont have to. Any advice would be appreciated.

What can I do next?

My baby is the same age and doing the same thing. I read that the numbing teething medication actually can numb the wrong area increasing the risk of the child swallowing their own tongue... so I avoid them! I just massage his gums with clean fingers and douse washclothes with distilled water and freeze them for him to suck/gnaw on. He's been enjoying that and we've avoided medication thus far. I also read that it's best to avoid the gel filled teething rings because they might leak and there are so many toxins in plastic. You might want to look into a more organic method like a wooden teether. Our pediatrician told us that just letting him chew on his own hand was fine though, so we've been sticking with that! It depends... every child tolerates pain in a different way. Good luck!!!

what i did with my little girl who showed teething signs at 4 months too (and didnt cut teeth till 7months). i got the gentle naturals teething drops. they are great! and you only give them every 2 hours (opposed to the tablets which only last like 10 mins). give your baby something cold to chew on but not frozen (dont freeze the teething rings your son could get frost bite in his mouth). what worked well for my daughter was i would give her the teething drops and some tylenol (so even after the drops wore off the tylenol was still working) good luck!

HI S.! It sure sounds like teething. Poor little guy, teething is so brutal. Try the teething tablets that others have recommended. I would use Tylenol as a last resort & I really don't think the Oragel does much. It only lasts a couple of minutes.

He could be teething... or hungry. Some babies do this when they are hungry.
Do you notice a difference with the Tylenol or oragel?

If it's teething, try letting him chew or gum something cold... my son liked anything cold... I would freeze a dampened washcloth.
Or there are homeopathic teething tabs/drops... like the brand Hyland's.
Good luck,

Hylands teething Tablets worked for us, I rubbed the tablets on her gums till they disolved. Also cold or frozen washclothes worked wonders. They even have vibrating teething rings for just this purpose. Try those. I'd do a bit more research onthe oragel stuff first. I neve used it cause I was told only bad things about it. When the teething got real bad I consulted her doctor to get the correct dosage for Tylenol / Motrin to help ease the pain. Good luck and hang in there..it's a long haul but you'll be an expert bythe time the first few are out.

Hi S., Babies start teething long before you see any teeth, for my kids, i did a few things, I freeze a spoon then rub it on their gums, I put crushed ice in a hankie or wash cloth and let them chew on it, and instead of medicating my babies i actually rubbed the tylenol onto their gums, the baby oregel, and those type products didn't work for my babies. Hope this helps. J.

Sounds like teething to me! They will do this for a while before you see anything, in fact, you'll feel them first. My daughter did/is doing the same thing and nothing really worked. I did have some luck with the Hyland's Homeopathic Teething Tablets, some places have them on the baby isle, some behing the counter with the pharmacist. Another thing to try is getting a clean washrag wet and freezing it, the cold and texture feels good for them. I did find that the best teething toy was mommy and daddy's thumb, until those sharp little teeth came in!!
