Irregular Cycle- What's Going On?

Could I be pregnant? I was wondering if this had happened to any of you mommies. Now let me start that I already have two little angels, so pregnancy is not new to me. Anyways, on Aug 18th I recieved my period. It was a normal cycle. Lasted about 5 days. All normal for me. Two weeks later I got it again. Lighter flow, about 4 days. Now, I am normally like clockwork 26 days apart. I am almost always certain to the day when I will be getting my period. Never been on the pill or anything. Well, now I am beginning to get pregger symptoms. Nauseous, tired, pants starting to get a little snug, hard belly... Either, once again, I am going to get my period after another 2weeks, or I am pregnant.

I guess my question is has anyone gotten a small period (i guess during egg implantation) and then end up being pregnant. I know I can just take a PT and find out. But, I am holding of to see what happens. I do not really wanna waste $$ if my body is starting to act up. Which is another thing that is worrying me. IS my body acting up and now my periods aren't going to be so regular because I am getting older(30soon).

Sorry for the rambling question??? Ladies, why do our bodies have to be so darn confusing?

So What Happened?

Well I took a test, Big Negative. I am kinda bummed. I still have all of the preg type systems. So I don't know. DH said to wait about a week, maybe I got some kind of stomach virus... Who knows? I am a little scared that now there are other problems with me. I have always been a healthy person. I guess only time will tell.

Thanks for all of your responses!

When i was preg w/ 2nd baby I had same thing, had period then 2 weeks later had a light "period", my dr. said (and he said it was not medically proven, just his theory) that sometimes there's spotting/period when egg implants and the placenta begins to form. He also said that some women will seem to have another small period at about 6-8 weeks when the placenta, which starts out bigger than needed, will "regulate" its size. Since it's such a vascular thing, the only place for it to go is out, giving appearance of bleeding. I thought I was miscarrying when that happened, but went full term and had a healthy baby girl. I, like you, don't like to waste the $ on PTs, and unless you start feeling pain or other strange symptoms, just wait a while to see what happens! :) Good Luck to you!

I agree about the low progesterone comments. You might want to look into that. A great book on it is "What your doctor may not tell you about premenopause - balancing your life from 30 to 50". It has been a tremendous source of enlightening information for me.

ALSO! You can get pregnancy tests for a buck at Dollar Tree store. They work, I've used them.

Yes, this happened to me. And I did a pregnancy test and it was negative. I eventually found out after blood tests at 9 weeks. Do a test and, if it is negative, be careful and do another one in a few weeks...

Good Luck!

J.,

This is exactly what happened to me when I was pregnant with my first child (and it explains why I was 4 weeks off on my expected due date!) I thought I was having a period when I was actually 4 weeks pregnant. When I finally figured out I was pregnant I asked my doctor about the "period" and he said up to 25% of women experience bleeding during the first trimester. Good luck! Please let us know what happens.

Have you had your thyroid checked? My cycle was like this, and it ended up being a thyroid problem.

This could also be ovulatory spotting. This happens to me every once and a while, usually when my stress levels are high. There are several reasons that you could be spotting. More than likely there is nothing wrong. I wouldn't worry about it. See if you get your period and if you don't then take the test.

Hi J., Yup, this happened to me when I was pregnant with my first (first and only so far). Was trying to get pregnant and was so diappointed when my "Period" showed up--turned out it was just implantation bleeding. But I would second the other ladies' opinions that if it doesn't turn out to be that you should check into the tyroid issue/hormone imbalance, etc. And p.s. I'll try not to take it personally that you think approaching 30 is "getting older!" I had my first child at 32--that's not that old, ha ha! Certainly not old enough for it to be normal that your period woudl get screwy like in peri-menopause! ;-)

I had a similar situation having 2 - 3 lighter periods and when I finally tested, I was 11 weeks pregnant. With 3 pregnancies, I have never had much by way of symptoms so I just attributed the irregular bleeding pattern and periods to being 4 mos or post pregnancy. You don't mention if you were recently pregnant breastfeeding, etc., but it does take time for our bodies to get back into a normal cycle so it could also be as simple as that. In hindsight I believe I should have tested sooner and gotten myself in for a check sooner (in case I was not pg and something else was going on). Good luck and be sure to post back an update.

It's possible, I guess, that you're pregnant. Howver, it is also possible that you are low on progesterone. I had symptoms like this when I had a hormonse imbalabce. Just wanted to give you one more thing to look into.

This happened to me a couple of months ago. I was getting my period every two to three weeks. I knew there was no way that I was pregnant, so I went to the doctors. She said that I had a chemical imbalance and put my on birth control. That's not to say that you aren't pregnant. When I had my first son it happened to me. I knew down to the day when I would get my period. I guess my only advice to you is wait another week or two and see if you are pregnant or go to the doctors now. If you still keep having the periods that close together and are not pregnant I would see your doctor. If you are pregnant then I just want to say Congratulations and Good Luck!
