Okay here is my story. I am 37 years old and have 3 beautiful boys. They are ages 11,6,& 3. I have had a lot of problems with bleeding where I am almost to the point of being anemic.. I have been to my OB/GYN who says I have fibroids.. That is fine I can deal with that. He wanted me to go see a Dr who does uterian embolization (I don't know if I spelled that right) to have my fibroids tied off or something like that.. I had to get an MRI done before I went to see him.. I did that on 10-26 and than went to see this Dr on 10/30.. This Dr told me that my uterus was the size of a 4-5 month pregnant women and that I had adomyosis. Fine its not cancer but I was told there was NO WAY that I could ever get pregnant and I need to get a hysterectomy. I cried a little because I want to be able to make the decision if I want to get a hysterectomy or not. Not be told I have no choice. Well than I got use to the idea and was kinda happy not having to deal with another period again.. We told our families the outcome.. We last week I take a pregnancy test and I am pregnant.. I am so confused.. I am happy but really just in shock.. I am scared because I don't even know if I will be able to carry this baby.. Now that I am pregnant I want to have this baby but just scared of what will happen.. Sorry I just needed to vent cause I am still in shock..

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

WOW thanks so much for all of your responses.. I got a blood test the other day and talked to my regular OB/GYN. My blood levels are where they are suppose to be. I go to the Dr's on the 20th of December and than he is going to recommend an ultrasound just to make sure the baby is in a good place.. Thanks so much for all of your advise and I will keep you posted. As far as the hysterectomy I have NO PROBLEM getting one after this baby is born.

I would recommend getting a second opinion. You've got a variety of diagnoses, a very unexpected result from your pregnancy test and some important medical decisions to make. Good luck and please keep us updated.

N., I can only imagine the shock of finding out you could be pregnant when there is so much going on with you. I think the first thing is to talk to the doctor and have them do another pregnancy test. Then if he thinks you should terminate it, seek a high risk OB/GYN doctor. They would know more. You might be able to carry that baby and go from there. You never know. But check into all options before making a decision. It wouldn't be right to you if you was told that was all you could do and then find out you could have had the baby. Good luck and keep us posted. Find another doctor if you have doubts. AS I said, a high risk pregnancy one is good. Just the idea of a doctor saying you can never get pregnant and one test says you are gives you reason enough to seek further advice. Also, to make sure it isnt' a false positive b/c of your problems. Good Luck

Hi N.,

Wow, what a decision you have. First of all I would go and get a second opinion about your condition. I would not take one doctors word and I would check out my options if you are not ready for a hysterectomy. Second with the baby coming. If you want a baby that is great, but I would also go to the doctor and tell them you are pregnant. I don't mean to sound mean but they will be able to give you a better idea about the pregnancy and if the baby's heart is beating and if it's healthy or not and then you can go from there.

I would take one step at a time. Go and find out about the baby and if you carry it great!!!! If you don't find another doctor and get another opinion about such a huge decision.

Best of luck to you!!!

Hi N.,

Congratulations on your pregnancy! I'm sorry it has come at such a tumultuous time for you. I would recommend that you get a second opinion on the hysterectomy recommendation. Maybe he is telling you that because it is the "easiest" way to deal with your problem, but it may not be the only way. Whenever such drastic measures are recommended, I always look for a 2nd opinion. I hope that you can carry this baby to term. You should probably get a 2nd opinion on whatever your ob/gyn says as well.

Good luck and I will keep you in my thoughts and prayers.

Wow, N., that would be shocking!! However, I believe every baby is a blessing and there must be some reason why you conceived your new little one.

9 years ago, I went to my family doctor b/c I was having dull, cramping lower abdominal pain. He did an exam and decided that I "must have an STD. Probably Pelvic Inflammatory Disease. You'll never be able to have more children." he then sent me to the hospital for a blood test to be sure I wasn't pregnant (b/c I felt strongly that I *could* be) and it was negative. I cried & cried because I was only 24 and definitely wanted more kids! I filled the prescription for the PID and took ONE of the pills. After that one, I instinctively stopped taking them and decided to get a home pregnancy test. What do you know? My wonderful 8 year old son was born 9 months later!!

Doctors do not always have all of the answers. Trust your instincts, talk to your fiance, talk to your doctor - get a 2nd opinion if it helps. Most of all, hang in there and remember that everything happens for a reason!

Hi N.,
First off congrats on your pregnancy. I work for a fertility specialist and have seen this many times. I do think that you should consider someone high risk or even a fertility doctor to follow this pregnancy. With such a large fibroid it is important to have close follow-up. As far as the hysterectomy is concerned, there are other procedures out there that are not as drastic. Did your doctor talk to you about a myomectomy? That is a surgical procedure in which the actual fibroid is removed. You would have a scar similar to a c-section but it could help maintain your fertility as a opposed to a hysterectomy. Good luck with your pregnancy!

You need to see a doctor and VERIFY you are pregnant and it is not a false pregnancy result due to your condition. Once you know for sure, talk to your doctor and find out what issues there are and make your decision based on the knowledge you gain.

Good Luck!

Hey, maybe one of the fibroids they thought they saw on the MRI was a fetus instead. I would go have a second and third opinion from some other doctors. I am a nurse and I don'tlike it when a doctor uses what I call definates, Like NO WAY you can get pregnant. There is always a small chance anything can happen, so if he is throwing around words like NO WAY, I think you should go see a Dr. that is a little less sure of himself. Once you have facts from at least two other Dr's, then make the decisions needed to be made with your husband. Please don't make you decisions based on what us mom's,who know nothing about you, have to say. GOOD LUCK

Hi N.,

That would be a shocker!! Are you sure that your medical problems isn't giving the pregnancy test a false reading? I agree that YOU should be the one to decide when to get an operation or not(unless it is a life-saving operation). This must be a hard time for you right now. I feel for you even though I haven't gone through anything like this personally.

Take care and God Bless!!!
